August 6, 2013 Dear Drs. Janet Theiss and Rebecca Horn, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge Caitlin McDonalds hard work and focus while attending the NACADA Academic Advising Summer Institute in Phoenix, AZ this August. As the facilitator for her small working group, I was very impressed with her knowledge, her dedication to the students she serves, and to enhancing the advising services at College of Humanities. She was a valued member of the group who added much to the discussion of the group and provided carefully thought out recommendations to her group members as they worked on their action plans for their campuses. In addition, her extremely strong communication skills and interpersonal skills were tremendous assets to our group work. Caitlins involvement with the institute not only will be of great benefit to your institution and advising program but also was a tremendous asset to the institute itself. Both the group and I were very impressed with the action plan she developed for implementation on your campus. Her plan is to develop pilot series of workshops to address advising issues encountered by international students that could evolve into modules for a capstone course. She was able to gather some very valuable input from our group on this plan as well as from the varied sessions and workshops she attended throughout the week. As impressed as I was with Caitlin I am sure you, Dr. Theiss and Dr. Horn are just as impressed with all she does for you college. You are fortunate to have such a dedicated and hard working professional on your campus who is so deeply committed to your students. I also want to acknowledge your commitment to Caitlins professional development and other professionals at the college as demonstrated by your support of her attendance at this years institute. I encourage you to continue this support, as it is through such professional development opportunities that she and other faculty and administrators will continue to grow and develop stronger advising programs for your students. If NACADA or I can be of any assistance to Caitlin, you, or your college, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, George E. Steele, Ph.D. Curator, NACADA Clearinghouse for Academic Advising
