Praise the Lord!

Currently there is $9190 toward the one time fund goal of $25,000. You are special people and I cant thank you enough. Jesus is doing a special work in all of our lives as He joins us together through prayer and financial support to go to Peru. The monthly support is at 20% and needs to be at 100% before I can go. The monthly support needs to be $2,700.00 and it is currently at $555. I wish to let you know that I have not used any of the money that you have sent for the newsletters and the postage. This usually costs me around $125 which is a blessing to me as God uses the newsletters to help others. I did not send out a winter newsletter as I had Christmas cards made. I enjoyed handing these out as tracts. If you have an e-mail account and are not receiving the newsletters and would like them. Please send me a message at susan.stevens@sim.org. I wish to thank everyone for their prayers and financial support.

Smile,
everyday we are getting closer to home.

Please pray that I continue to grow in Jesus and in the Fruit of the Spirit. I want to be none of me and all of Jesus. Please pray for the financial support to be 100 % by the end of summer. My prayer for you is that God will give you His wisdom and strength for every situation. .

Choclo, the famous large-kernel corn variety, is one of the most symbolic foods of Peru. There are more than 35 varieties of corn in Peru, including the choclo cobs from the highlands that are known not only for their enormous kernels, but also for their delicious flavor. Choclo contains a significant amount of protein and fiber. It also has vitamins B1, B7 or biotin, B9 and folic acid, and minerals like magnesium, phosphorous, iron and potassium.

English as a bridge to Jesus

A bridge of connection between Jesus and the Peruvian people is what I would like to help build through teaching English in the canyon of Cotahuasi. My vision is to bring children to Jesus by teaching them English using the Bible as my main curriculum. I am now a certified teacher in the states of Washington and Nebraska. I taught 4 years in Nebraska and I am currently a Teacher and Instructional Aide Substitute in Washington and Idaho. I am staying with my parents in Washington. Let me tell you a little about myself and how I know that I will be going to Peru to serve Jesus. I am a divorced woman with 3 beautiful daughters and one great son-in-law. Being divorced can put a stigma on you, but God, in his mercy and grace, takes it away and makes beauty out of something that is painful and ugly. Isaiah 61:3 is one of my verses that I hold onto. Now how did I know that Jesus wanted me to serve in Peru? Well, for one thing, I always wanted to go to Africa, especially Tanzania, and serve. Peru was never a thought in my mind, but Jesus has always put a strong desire in me to learn Spanish. I was at Monument Bible Church, in Nebraska, when a missionary got up to speak. His words and his CD of Cotahuasi sent electricity up my spine. I could actually see and hear the falls as I watched the silent CD. The missionary, Brad Shaw, said that they needed English as a Second Language teachers and I had just received my endorsement for ESL. I talked with him afterwards and told him I would like to go. He gave me information about SIM, Serving in Mission, and told me to keep in contact. I did apply to SIM and was accepted. I am now a missionary appointee. In the summer of 2009 I was privileged to go to Peru for 5 weeks. I stayed at the SIM missionary guest house for 3 weeks and met many wonderful missionaries doing Gods work in Lima. I left Lima for Arequipa and from there on a bus for a 15 hour ride to Cotahuasi. I stayed there for 2 weeks and fell in love with the people and the countryside. My Spanish is not very good, but God was wonderful and I was able to make myself understood.

I left Nebraska to help my Dad through 2 hip replacements and to help my Mom. Both are in their 80s and not as spry as they once were. They live in Asotin, WA which is a little south and across the river from Lewiston, Idaho I am currently attending Orchards Community Church, which I attended over 30 years ago. Yup, I once lived in Lewiston. It was in this church where I first learned about SIM from a couple of missionaries who had just returned from Bolivia and the Amazon jungle. SIM, at that time meant Sudan Interior Mission, and so I have come full circle back to where I first learned about SIM. Psalm 37:4 Says: Delight thyself also in the Lord and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. My foremost desire is to love, serve, and be obedient to Jesus. My other desires are for all my family to love, serve, and to be obedient to Jesus.. This year I am learning a lot about waiting for Gods timing. I was praying that I would have been in Peru by now, but God has been using this time to teach me about humility, patience, gentleness, and lots about joy. I know that when the time comes for me to go that everything will fall into place.

Someday, I will be crossing that bridge bringing light to others using my skills as a teacher to teach about the wonderful life with Jesus.
