Kimberly Leone February 28, 2014 3rd Hour 442 Words Dear Classic Reader,

Can you imagine what it would be like to switch between magical worlds, and to chase after an evil witch? This is exactly what happens to the main characters, Digory and Polly, in The Magicians Nephew. My name is Kimberly Leone, and I would like to introduce you to The Magicians Nephew, created by the gifted writer C. S. Lewis. This cleverly crafted novel contains several strong characters and has a Biblical moral tone. Digory and Polly, the two main characters, have the ability to switch between worlds because of the magic rings that Digorys Uncle Andrew has given them. When the two children are out exploring the fallen world of Charn, they release a curse that has been placed upon the witch Jadis, and they accidentally manage to bring her back to their home in London. After Jadis begins to cause a catastrophe within the town, Digory and Polly are determined to bring Jadis back to Charn. During this process, the children accidentally enter the wrong world, and they find themselves experiencing the creation of Narnia. This world is ruled by the Lion Aslan, and even though Narnia has just begun, the witch Jadis has already caused evil to enter. In my opinion, C.S. Lewis does an exceptional job at developing characters, especially the Lion Aslan. The Lion opened his mouth, but no sound came from it; he was breathing out, a long, warm breath; it seemed to sway all the beasts as the wind sways a line of trees. This is just one of many passages that describe the great power that Aslan possessed. The author also

does a splendid job of introducing the adventurous personalities of Digory and Polly, as they both go exploring in an attic and find a discovery. A Biblical moral tone is clearly present throughout the entire novel. The other world Charn was different from Narnia, because it had fallen into evil. In order to protect Narnia from evil, a tree was planted whose fruit was forbidden to eat. This is also a Biblical allusion to Adam and Eve in the garden Eden. In both situations if anyone consumed the fruit of the tree, they would no longer be protected from evil, and could not experience true pleasure and happiness. This clearly condemns evil, and therefore shows that our world is fallen just like Charn because of sin. The Magicians Nephew is a piece of fine literature that you should definitely consider reading. It abounds with thrilling conflicts and magical adventures. your attention, and you will find that your eyes are glued to the pages. It will quickly capture

Sincerely,

Kimberly Leone
