Integrate Web App/Tool Lesson 3 Lesson Plan 6th Grade Mathematics Title/Information Area and Surface Area Webquest

est 60 students Common Core Standards CCGPS.M.6.G.1 - Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems. CCGPS.M.6.G.4 - Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems. Essential Question What strategies, properties of shapes, and formulas must I know in order to find the area, surface area, and volume of figures? Learning Objective (A) The student will be able to (B) select significant information from throughout the unit/modules in order to create a better understanding of area and surface area in addition to completing the assignments, which will be graded (C) given a specific rubric (D) while achieving a score of 70% or better. Instructional Framework Warm up and copy in agenda Show the class how to access the webquest Demonstrate how to copy and paste URLs Go over rules and expectations of the assignment and technology use Explain the rubric used for grading Discuss academic dishonesty and recording correct information on papers Work on projects Materials Technology (i.e. computer lab, iPads, laptops, etc) Any reference materials Internet connection Learning Strategies Engage Students will be engaged since this assignment uses a lot of technological resources. Elicit I will elicit information by asking students to make connections between 2-D area in order to find the surface area of 3-D shapes in addition to nets. Explore Students will explore their own learning by reviewing and completing standards based practice problems. Explain Students will be expected to explain and summarize different processes. Elaborate Students will be expected to complete additional practice problems if they finish early and complete all expectations. Evaluate Students will be able to self-evaluate their work by using the rubric as a guide

during the work period. Students will be formally graded by the teacher at the completion of the assignment using the same rubric. Extend The entire webquest is an extension to what students have been learning and practicing in the classroom. Assessment for Learning Successful completion of all four tasks. Differentiation Students who finish early will be challenged to extend their learning and find three useful websites that they could recommend to a peer for additional practice or explanations concerning area and/or surface area. DOK Level Level 3 Students are investigating, comparing, and constructing. Homework Finish project by the assigned due date.
