Goal 1: I will attend an online seminar that will teach me how to implement the Daily 5 Literacy Program into my classroom.
The Daily 5 is more than a management system or a curriculum framework - it is a structure that helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working independently that will lead to a lifetime of literacy independence.

Goal 2: I will attend CGI (Cognitively Guided Instruction) trainings and learn how to incorporate different math strategies into my instruction. I will also read the book, Childrens Mathematics: Cognitively Guided Instruction by Thomas P. Carpenter.
Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI)
is a problem-solving mathematics program designed to improve number sense and computation for students in Kindergarten through third grades. It has been proven effective for boys and girls of diverse social class, racial and ethnic, and language proficiency backgrounds. (michellef@essdack.org)
Goal 3: I will attend a year-long program through Pearsonschool.com to complete a series of Common Core State Standards trainings and implementation strategies.
Pearson school is Leading the Way for Common Core State
Standards Implementation Professional Development. This series helps administrators, curriculum directors, coaches, and other instructional leaders explore the implications the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have on content and curriculum, classroom instruction and assessment, and building and district culture. It also explains how changes in those areas relate to successfully implementing the Common Core. Participants examine the likely impact of the Common Core on leaders, teachers, and students in their district. They also consider possible time frames and frameworks for implementation and learn about indepth professional development opportunities that accommodate the needs of teachers and students
Goal 4: I will continue to read books that will motivate and inspire me as I grow within my teaching profession. One book that I will start with will be, How Children Succeed by Paul Tough.
Why its worth reading: Paul
Tough tracks the importance of building students character skills. In the book, researcher Angela Duckworth shows how students character traits are stronger indicators of their success, rather than their IQs. This book will help teachers build a classroom focused on both academic growth and building students character skills (Sargent).
Goal 5: I will learn how to integrate the most modern and recent technologies into my classroom, improving my teaching strategies and use of instructional tools. I will attend a 1-year program through Edtech Teacher.org. At EdtechTeacher we strongly believe that successful technology integration in schools requires ongoing, sustained professional development. Our Teaching for the 21st Century program (T21) works with cohorts of educators at schools and districts over the course of a school year, combining face-to-face workshops, live webinars, online course work, and one-to-one coaching (Edtechteacher.org).

Reflection
Developing as a professional is a huge part of being a great teacher, and a life-long learner. Although, it is important that we are true to ourselves and love what we do. One of the books I read throughout my graduate program, Why We Teach by Sonia Nieto, states: Be yourself. Teaching is an interactive, interpersonal experience that requires personality and communication. If I have any hopes of connecting with my students and helping kids connect with their world, Ive got to be myself and do things my way. Teaching is based on trust, and when students see me as a real person who genuinely wants them to succeed, strong bonds are formed.
I will continue to grow and learn as a professional and provide the best learning environment for my students.
