My civilization needs a belief system because it makes our community a better place.

The citizens have to know that they have hope, so they need a system to believe in. If we have a good belief system, then all the citizens will all work together to make the civilization better. They will know whats right to do and wrong, and they will also follow the citys rules. Imagine a place where everyone was treating people badly, and the city and people just turned to ashes. That is what will happen to my civilization if my citizens dont have hope. This is exactly why all Romans, Incas, Greeks, Egyptians, and many more had a believe system, because it was the closest thing to bring them together. Every city wants to have peace and happiness and making a belief system is the closest thing to it. The reason why some civilizations have lasted for a long time is because they have a belief system. When everyone is living a happy life, when a city goes good, then the city will thrive. In order to further understand the importance of a belief system on society, and their influence on their followers, acknowledge the moral dilemma below. Joe is a fourteen-year-old boy who wanted to go to camp very much. His father promised him he could go if he saved up the money for it himself. So Joe worked hard at his paper route and saved up the $40 dollars it cost to go to camp, and a little more besides. But just before camp was going to start, his father changed his mind. Some of his fathers friends decided to go on a special fishing trip, and Joe's father was short of the money it would cost. So he told Joe to give him the money he had saved from the paper route. Joe didn't want to give up going to camp, so he thinks of refusing to give his father the money. If Joe were Buddhist, the rules of Buddhism would have proved to his dad that he could keep the money. The Eightfold Fold includes to not be selfish, violent, and to prevent evil actions. It tells Buddhists to be honest, loving, truthful, carful, and most important to promote good actions. I believe that the dad is not a true Buddhist because he is selfish and is only concerned about himself. He needs to promote good actions to his son, and that is exactly want he didnt do. He lied to his son and broke a promise. A dads goal in life is to teach his son or daughter to behave the right way, but Joe needs to teach his dad a lesson. He should tell him that it is not okay to take his money to use it on a fun trip for him. He took responsibility and worked hard to get his money. He should also tell him that he doesnt have a deep understanding of the Four Noble Truths. On page 159, it states, The way to give up all cravings is to live life according to the Eightfold Path (Frey). This shows that to be a good man, you need to follow the rules of being a good person. In conclusion, Joe should keep the money because it is the right thing to do in the Buddhist belief system. If Joe were a Hindu, he would have kept the money for himself because he has to remember his Dharma and Karma. Joe would have to tell his dad to act a different way to respect Hinduism. He has to tell him that bad things come to bad people, and good things come to good people. This line from Hinduism shows that you have to be a good person or bad things will happen to you. The right decision for Joes dad to make to let his son keep the money that he made. Karma is when if someone makes

a bad decision or does something bad, than something bad will happen to you. Joes dad will have to act different if he was a Hindu, because if he didnt, he wouldnt have a good next life. Also, Joes dad would have to respect the rules of Dharma. On page 148, it states, To follow ones dharma means to preform ones duties and so to live as one should. (Frey). In conclusion, If Joes dad was a Hindu, he would have to let Joe keep the money because its the right thing to do when understanding the rules of Hinduism. If Joe followed Confuciuss teachings, then he would make the right decision to keep the money from his dad. Confucianism is where everyone wants to live in a peaceful society. This shows that if Joe and his father fight over the money, than they are not showing a good example of a peaceful society. If Joe wants to keep a peaceful society between his father and him, than he must tell his dad kindly that its his own money and that he should take it. Joes dad wouldnt be considered a Confucius, because he isnt a good role model and doesnt think wisely, kindly, and the right way. On page 208 it states, Confucius taught that society worked well when all people acted properly based upon their roles and their relationships with others (Frey). For Joes dad to become a Confucius he would have to follow the rules and act differently to his son. My civilization needs similar moral values because it will help my city thrive. As you can see, having a belief system keeps people within a civilization aligned with one another. Moral values are a part of people; everywhere you go they are attached to us and help us make good decisions. Whether you believe in Buddhism, Hinduism, or Confucianism, they all show the power of peoples actions. If all citizens didnt have moral values, they wouldnt have any hope, trust, or respect. Moral values make people who they are, and help to create peaceful, respectful societies.
