Ms. Handler's Science Closs!


This year, as
7th

graders, we will cover the science of many interesting things! Units such as geology, The course culminates with the New York

chemistry, and life science are key parts of our curriculum.

City Scope and Sequence of Science program. We, as students, parents, and teacher are all a team. Let's work together to ensure a successful year! 1. Supplies: 3 ring binder (preferably green) with loose-leaf paper! Reinforcement Highlighter labels Pens and pencils **You must come prepared every day with the necessary supplies!!

4. Tests/Quizzes: All material covered in class, lab, and homework and classwork assignments will be tested in exams. Exams will be announced in advance. The format of exams will consist of multiple choices; fill in the blank, short answer responses and/or labeling figures, graphs, etc. Quizzes will be much shorter in length than exams, but will help students prepare for the exams. Quizzes will be given periodically and may be announced or unannounced. 5. Labs/Projects: Lab activities will be completed in class and sometimes students will need to complete questions at home. Projects can be a combination of work done at home and school. Time will be announced in advance and properly allotted if projects must be done solely at home. Each lab grade is based on collaboration, staying on task, analyzing data and trends, questioning, discussion, formal lab write up's, etc. 6. Homework: Homework will be given most days and checked on the due date. Homework includes textbook, dittos, lab questions, readings etc. Homework is graded on a 1-4 scale. I allow 1 day late homework with a penalty (students will start off with a "3/1). Headings on any homework or assignment should include student name, date, assignment name/number and class. Assignments that do not have the full heading cannot be graded! Students should be familiar with Pupil Path as my homework will be posted there. Dates for upcoming tests, announced quizzes, projects, as well as notes students must copy for the next day if time does not allow will be posted. 7. Classwork/Participation/Attendance: Students who are absent are responsible for any missed classwork, lab work, or assignments, It is the student's responsibility to obtain the missing work from the teacher. If an exam, quiz, or lab is missed due to a verified absence, the student must schedule a time to make up the work. In class, students should actively participate and become

involved in the learning process. Take an active role in your school day! I can explain the material to you, but I cannot understand it for you. I need YOU to be a part of this class as much as I am. If you're not here, you cannot participate! Attendance will be recorded every day in accordance with our school policy. *Tasks will be given 3-4 times this year and graded as classwork (not an exam!)

8. Cheating/Malpractice:
Cheating/malpractice are defined as behaviors that result in, or may result in, a student gaining an unfair advantage over another student, and include the following: Plagiarism - representation of the ideas or work of another person as the student's own. If need be, I will turn bapers into www.turnitin.com. Collusion - the supporting of malpractice or submitted for another. by another student, as allowing one's work to be copied

Testing Malpractice - using unauthorized materials or electronic device; engaging in misconduct with other students; unauthorized use of resources (no use of cell phones)

*Students found violating the academic honesty policy will be subject to disciplinary action.
