Knowledge and Understanding: Students will be showing their knowledge of the novel by critiquing discrepancies between the movie and novel Application: Students will be applying their knowledge as they jot down notes during the film showing. Week 4: Day 3 Assignment Due and Start of Movie Unit: Brave New World (Dystopian Novel Study)

Brave New World movie must be ready 30 Copies of Themes and Differences t-chart
Materials for Class: projector and screen, movie (Brave New World), handouts, pencils, entrance cards

Hook/Introduction: (5 minutes) Students will be asked to answer a couple of reflective questions about their final assignment on entrance cards. They will be asked: What difficulties, if any, did you have with the final assignment? Would you change anything about your assignment? Why/why not? Students will be asked to place their names on these cards so that they can be applied to their assignments. Lesson: 1. (5 minutes) Students that have not already done so will hand in their assignments. 2. (2 minutes) Students will be given a brief (verbal) introduction to the movie including the year it was filmed. Ask: What problems/issues can we already see arising from the fact that this movie of produced in 2011? 3. (1 minute) Students will be handed the Themes and Differences handout. While this page is being given to students, the teacher will explain that this is an assistive tool to track differences that they may see in the film. As well, general comments and observations should be written on the back of the sheet. 4. (55 minutes) Watch film.

Bridge: This lesson will bridge into the next where more of the film will be viewed.
