Bienvenue

Dear parents and students, My name is Ms. Pittman. I am from Luxembourg where I studied French and German in Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany. I will be your son/daughter French teacher for this coming school year. My goal is to provide your sons/daughters with an educationally challenging and pleasurable experience in my class. I am excited to teach the French language, culture and history. Learning a foreign language will greatly benefit your child, he or she will expand their vocabulary and cultural knowledge, which in turn will be an advantage to him or her when they enter the work force. French is a very demanding course and this class will cover many materials. Students will be required to learn vocabulary, grammar, conjugations, while also listening to audio/video conversations. Students will read French articles, translating them from English into French and from French into English. They will do extensive research on great writers, artists and historical personages. Each student will need a notebook, colored pen, eraser and a number two pencil. I would encourage the parents to seek out French clubs, or find a person who speaks fluent French to help him or her to improve in the language. Some other helpful things that will assist them in this endeavor are a few online programs like TF1, ARTE France, and RTL France. They can also read the French newspapers like Le Monde, Le Figaro among others. Please supervise your son or daughter during their online research. I expect your son or daughter to come to class on time and with their assignments completed. They are to follow the school and class rules. They will respect themselves, the authority and their fellow students. They will be required to get the lessons and notes they missed while they were absent. In conclusion, I have exceptionally high expectations of all my students and I am a strong believer in having a strict study discipline and structure. I am asking your help to maintain those expectations by checking with your son or daughter periodically to make sure that he or she is completing the assignments. I am available to help students individually before school, during my prep periods, and after school. Since your son or daughter is in High School, they are responsible to ask for tutoring or help. I have included a copy of the course program with this letter. If you want me to notify you of test dates and/or update you on your son/daughters progress, please fill out the form I have included to this letter. Return it promptly with your name, students name, phone number, and email address. Please do not hesitate to contact me at 123-456-7890 x 1234 or dpittman12@killeenisd.ed, if you have any questions or concerns during the year. Thank you, D. Pittman
