Math This week Miss Bickel reviewed multiplying fractions and

mixed numbers. Students learned how to divide fractions, which is really multiplying the reciprocal. By now, they should have that phrase memorized! We will finish up the unit on Monday. We will review and test of the unit on Wednesday.

Unit 5.1The Skunk Ladder Multi-syllabic Words

CCSS Language 2.e.

Reading

Next week our story is The Skunk Ladder. Students will practice the skill of character and plot. We will also work on identifying and analyzing figurative language. That skill was identified by ACUITY as needing more work and with ISTEP right around the corner, we are in crunch time!

Grammar Next week we will work on contractions and negatives and how to correctly using them in our writing.

Writing We wrapped up our state report research this week and

will begin formatting and typing our reports next week. Within the next couple weeks we should have completed reports and powerpoints! Its coming together nicely.

Spelling Next weeks words all have multiple syllables. PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! www.spellingcity.com/triton5

Social Studies Miss Bickel began teaching Social Studies this

week. We have begun learning about the beginnings of the American Revolution which we will be studying heavily in the upcoming weeks. Miss Bickel has a some great activities planned for our upcoming chapter!

Science We reviewed our unit on matter and took our unit test.
They were a little ugly. We went back through the test and discussed why certain questions were missed. We also talked testing strategies. Our next unit that we barely began this week is on energy flow in ecosystems which will lead into what we will be learning at Camp Amigo.

Note From the Teacher: Monday will be our 50 states and capitals test. Its a big one. There are lots of games on my website students can play to review/practice for the test. They also have flashcards they can study. Last week I sent home pink Camp Amigo chaperone letters. As we begin planning our big trip to Camp Amigo on April 17 & 18 we need to start signing up chaperones to go along with us. A background check must be on file, and we must give Camp Amigo our numbers in March. For these reasons, we need to find out how many parent chaperones we will be taking with us. If you are interested in attending, please fill out the chaperone form and return it with your child ASAP .
