1. Consider C the idealized aircraft of f weight W in steady y level fligh ht as show wn in Figure F 1. Th he fuselage is rigid and d able to un ndergo heav ve and pitch h motions w while wings w are fle exible and can c sustain n torsional e elastic moti ion due to moment ca aused by lift force on the aero odynamic center.

Figure F 1: Air rcraft in stea ady flight

Assume that the wing modeled d as a 2D typical t secti ion (airfoil) ) which is a attached to the fuselage by a torsio onal spring ( k ) and ign nore the eff fect of 3D. Deriv ve the static c governing g equation o of elastic an nd rigid bod dy motion i in trim condition. c Deter rmine the divergence d speed s of the e aircraft.

Hint: Write W force equilibrium e equation in n vertical d irection, th he moment equilibrium m about th he center of f gravity an nd then the moment eq quilibrium o of the elastic motion o of the wing g. 2. The T figure below b shows s a typical section s of a an aircraft w wing which is used two o fl laps. One is s a usual tra ailing edge flap and th he other one e is a leadin ng edge flap p which w are de eployed sim multaneously y. If the e deflection n of the lead ding edge fl lap is one th hird of the trailing edg ge ( d = b ) ): Obtain the flap reve ersal speed of the wing g. Discuss about a the effect of lead ding edge fl lap on the d divergence speed.
