Maneuvers of combat aircraft The short time scale maneuvering capabilities of an aircraft are qualified with the help

of Agility metrics. The modern combat requirements calls for improved agility during close quarters engagement. [] Earlier combat aircraft were designed for excellent turn rates at given speeds. The present combat aircraft with air-to-air, point-lock-fire capalilities are required to point quickly through trust-vectoring and post-stallmaneuvrability. The different maneuvers of combat aircraft can be classified as Axial, ie along velocity vector, longitudinal, ie rotation of the velocity vector in the pitching plane and leteral, which involves rotation about velocity vector, ie roll. This is further classified as Transient, Functional and Dynamic based on time spent in the maneuvers. The transient maneuvers last just 1-3 seconds. The functional maneuvers last 10-20 seconds. The dynamic manuvers involves induced spin or ductch-roll to confuse chasing enemy aircraft.
