Jordan Ryder Vocabulary Activity This activity is designed for a 7th grade Computers course during the MS Word

unit. This activity introduces some basics of using word-processing software. After completion of this assignment students should be able to create, edit, and enhance documents efficiently. This satisfies standards: BC5.a.10.h: Proofread, edit and revise written work using vocabulary specific to various topics. RH8.4: Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific scientific or technical context relevant to grades 68 texts and topics. The following are the vocabulary words and definition: Menu bar Displays menu names. A menu is a list of options or choices. Click the menu name to open the list of commands. Insertion Point or cursor moves across the screen indicating where the next character will be placed. Alignment the placement of text between the left and right margins; can be aligned at the left, at the right, or in the center. Margins the white space around the edges of the page. The margins frame the document. Font Style different design effects of text. Points the size of fonts is measured in points 72 points equals one inch. The most common font size for text is a 12-point font.

Word-Processing Word Document Activity You will be creating an invitation to our class open house to showcase all of our projects from this semester. Follow the step-by-step instructions to practice Entering and editing text in a document. You will save the file to our class folder. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Open a new blank document. Set the margins to 1 on the top, left, right, and bottom. Select the font Times New Roman. Set the font to 12-point. Type the current date. Press Enter three times. Type the salutation, Dear Mrs. Heckman followed by a comma. Press Enter two times. 9. You are now ready to type the body of the letter. Type the following text: You are invited to attend our class Open House on Tuesday, October 28 at 6:00pm. 10. Press Enter two times. 11. Type the following paragraphs, pressing Enter twice after the first paragraph. Our class has been working on working on many projects this semester and would like to showcase our talents to our family and friends. There will be food and lots of fun at this Open House! Please mark the date on your calendar and join us for the fun event. 12. Press Enter two times. 13. Type Sincerely followed by a comma. Press Enter four times. 14. Type your Name. 15. Click on File. 16. Click Save As. 17. Select our class folder titled Intro to Computers. 18. Type your name in the File name box and click Save.
