Welcome to Science 10. This course provides a general outline of 4 streams found in the sciences. The topics include Cellular Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Sciences/Weather. The course extends knowledge gained in grade 9 science and will continue to be sufficient prerequisite material for the Science 20 courses (Chemistry 20, Biology 20, Physics 20, Science 20 and/or Science 24). Mark Distribution:
Labs/Assignments: 20% Quizzes: 15% Unit Exams: 25% Unit Projects: 10% Culminated Final Exam: 30%

Rewrites for exams and/or certain assignments are an option. Students must meet with the teacher and have shown an appropriate amount of preparation (textbook questions, homework assignments, practice questions etc) in order to gain approval for the rewritten assignment/exam. The better of the two marks will be awarded as the grade for the assignment. Final exams and daily quizzes are not rewritten. If an assignment, project, quiz or exam is not completed by the end of the unit, then the student will be awarded a zero after the unit is completed. Students must notify the teacher about pre-arranged absences, such as sporting tournaments, appointments, extra-curricular activities need to be communicated to the teacher so the students can receive materials to catch up on missed material. Unexpected absences, such as illness, family emergencies or other special circumstances can be communicated via email or phone call when possible. Clarification from a doctor, parent and/or guardian may be requested depending on the absence. Units:

Class Expectations:
P.A.R.T.Y. Participation Attention, Assistance and Appreciation Respect and Responsibility Teamwork and Try-It Your Effort and Enthusiasm Before Class Be prepared; Have practice questions completed for next lesson Bring Materials to class (Minimum: Pencil, paper for notes, calculator, textbook) If a lab is happening in the next class, make sure that you have long pants, closed toed shoes and hair must be pulled back if long enough and the pre-lab work completed If going to be away for special circumstances (appointments, athletics, school events etc), please email the teacher ahead of time. When Arriving to Class Agenda for class will be on the Right hand side of the board (Look there to see what you will be doing) Have materials ready (Paper, Pencil, Homework from previous class) Cell Phones, I-pods/mp3 players are to be off and away unless used in class as directed by the teacher When in Class Be respectful of property, peers and teacher No Food or Beverages in Class Tobacco, Drugs and Alcohol are prohibited on school property, therefore are not allowed in class. Ask your classmates for help, and remember the teacher is there to help you out as well. Raise hand for help or in response to questions Vulgar Language, bullying or harassment are not tolerated Plagiarism m is not tolerated, student will be awarded a zero if found to be cheating or have committed plagiarism If arriving late, please do not interrupt class, sit down and wait until appropriate time to ask for further information. All tests, quizzes, feedback forms, labs and assignments for Miss Nielsen will be placed in the drop boxes Students must wait for dismissal to know when to clean up belongings. If requiring extra help or needing to complete missed class material, please arrange a meeting at the end of class. This meeting will be outside of class time.
