3. Black stripes front-to-rear on the first copy of a set. The first copy of a set has a black line or lines
that run in the front to rear direction. The problem usually occurs on new installations.
The cleaning blade is not working properly and leaves a line on the drum when the drum stops.
Therefore, the problem is on the first copy of a series. The image may appear more than once on a
page and get lighter on the second pass of the drum. The drum circumference is 188 mm or about 7.5
inches, and marks would repeat at this interval. The problem is caused by improper drum service during
installation.
Follow the procedures for preparing the drum for first use in the 7033/7040 Service Manual (7/98).
The Installation section of the manual is section 9, and the pages addressing drum, cleaning blade, and
developer are 9-4 through 9-7. Failure to follow these installation steps may result in the symptom
listed and possible permanent damage to the drum (PCUA 950411) or cleaning blade (p/n 55GA56010).
4. Toner particles collect in the dead space on the developer path and spew onto copies due to
vibration caused by removing/installing the drum carriage.
After removing/installing the drum carriage, or when the copies have small fine spots, perform the
following:
a. Access the 36 mode (power the copier ON while pressing the 3 and 6 keys).
b. Select [3. Running mode].
c. Select [3. Running mode3] (no paper).
Note: Select Very High Mode if firmware version is 34 or greater. To access the selection, press
QUALITY on the touchscreen.
d. Select 11x17 paper, normal density, place a blank 11x17 original on the platen glass, and make

e. Power the copier OFF/ON to exit the 36 mode.
f. Make 5 blank copies of 11x17 or 10 blank copies of 8.5x11.
5. Lines on the copies, front-to-rear, when using the ADF. The scan glass mylar is in the view of the
scanned originals.
Reposition the scan glass mylar. The mylar is attached to the stopper plate assembly (p/n

7033
SOLUTION The machine is equipped from the factory with 16MB of SIMM memory on the main CB which is USAGE 8
upgradable to 80MB. MU-103 memory modules (32MB, SIMM) can be ordered using PCUA 950781.
Memory is mounted on the main CB which is located beneath the platen glass under the lens cover.
Note: Proper performance is guaranteed ONLY with Konica specified SIMM memory modules.
Memory configuration and specifications are very complicated. As a result, purchase of memory from
a vendor may result in the wrong SIMM, although the product is of a high quality. The following
specifications are guidelines.
Konica 32MB SIMM modules (PCUA 950781) are available at 60 or 70ns, with non-parity. These
modules have tin plated contacts. The original 16MB SIMM in the E-RDH is GOLD plated. EDO
(Extended Data Output) can NOT be used.
Note: Some 60ns SIMMs are provided. 60ns memory can be used in combination with 70ns as long as
a 70ns SIMM is installed in bank 0 (in the first slot). The E-RDH does not require parity memory.
Note: After installation of any memory, the memory check procedure should be performed.
Note: IP402 Memory is different; See IP402.
The Konica 7033 uses an E-RDH (Electronic Recirculating Document Handler). This E-RDH stores
each job in memory prior to printing. The standard E-RDH configuration is 16MB of memory. The
memory module used to achieve this is the 72-pin SIMM (Single Inline Memory Module) type. This
memory is volatile i.e. all memory addresses on a module of this type are reset whenever power is
removed.
Optional configurations for the E-RDH allow for memory to be increased above the standard 16MB
configuration. This is done by adding other modules of the same type only, thus an optional memory
configuration would also be volatile.
The process of powering the Konica 7033 off via the main power switch on the lower left corner of the
exit side of the machine removes power from the E-RDH, thus any information previously stored will
be impossible to retrieve when the main power switch is turned ON.
When memory is expanded, the following adjustment must be performed to verify the E-RDH
functionality:
1. Access the 47 mode, output code 198 and press start/print (memory check is started, it takes approx.
5 min). Do not press start/print again.
2. The output value according to the amount of expanded memory will be displayed following "OUT:"
on the LCD:
Expanded : Output
memory value
0 MB 9994
16MB 9995
32MB 9996
48MB 9997
64MB OK
Notes:
1. This check is used only to verify SIMM condition - not the E-RDH board except to determine its
SIMM access function.
2. A maximum of 4 SIMMs can be mounted
3. If any 1 fails, Memory Error will display and each SIMM must be checked to determine which has
failed.
DESCRIPTIO In booklet mode, memory drops to 54% when run in normal quality. SOLUTION 54392
SOLUTION CAUSE: This is normal operation, as the unit requires a certain amount of memory to be allocated USAGE 1
when the copy job is started.
SOLUTION: If the machine is run in high quality mode, the memory drops to a very low level.
Additional memory (MU-103, PCUA 950781) may be required if using complex originals in this mode.

SOLUTION CAUSE: The PCL driver is corrupted. The PCL driver can be corrupted if one of the following USAGE 0
programs are running while loading the print driver:
1. Microsoft Office* Tool Bar.
2. Antivirus software.
3. File and Printer Sharing is enabled. File and Printer Sharing can be enabled after the driver is loaded.
4. There may be problems if HP JetAdmin* software is running on the PC while the driver is being
installed.
Note: As a test for the IP402, print using the HP LaserJet* II print driver. If the HP LaserJet II print
driver is able to print a test page, this indicates that the problem is associated with the PCL driver.
SOLUTION: Shut down all programs and tool bars prior to loading the PCL driver. Completely delete
the PCL driver from the PC:
1. Use add/remove programs in control panel to remove the PCL driver.
2. Verify that the following files were deleted from the PC:
Windows 95/98* PCL driver for the 7033/7040.
C:\windows\system\kbm7040.pdd
C:\windows\system\ppgprint.ini
C:\windows\system\efgnpcl2.drv

C:\windows\system\efgnplay.exe
C:\windows\system\efgn5fx2.dll
C:\windows\system\tab16d20.dll
C:\windows\system\pclwin95.hlp
Delete all of these files prior to loading the PCL driver. If any of these files remain in the
windows\system directory and are corrupt, loading the PCL driver again will not resolve the problem.
The corrupt file will not be rewritten by the new driver.

SOLUTION CAUSE: Insufficient use of setting powder on the drum cleaning blade. Possibly, incorrect drum or USAGE 0
cleaning blade installation.
SOLUTION: Replace the drum (PCUA 950411), if damaged, and the cleaning blade (p/n 55GA56010).
Ensure proper cleaning blade installation and apply sufficient setting powder on the blade/drum surface.
If Konica supplies are being used and the cleaning blade is being properly installed, but the cleaning
blade flipping still occurs, a temporary countermeasure is recommended. Use a light application of
silicon oil from a fixing pad (p/n 25SA-5350 or p/n 55FA-5350) to decrease the drag/friction on the
front drum flange. To apply the silicon oil, perform the following:
1. Remove the drum from the drum carriage.
2. Apply setting powder on the entire drum surface.
3. Fit drum, cleaning blade and cleaner cover on drum carriage.
4. Fit drum fixing material/Front and Rear on drum carriage.
5. Rotate drum fixing material/Front and Rear to make the drum rotate clockwise once.
6. Remove drum and [[apply silicon oil to the position shown in the drum hyperlink. Wipe the silicon
oil softly with the cleaning pad in the direction indicated by the arrow| IMAGE V:\bitmaps\cjc139.bmp
SCROLL]].
Note: A very small amount of silicon oil is effective. To prevent oil from covering the OPC surface
of the drum, only apply a small amount of oil. If silicon oil is applied on the OPC surface, image
deterioration may occur. Accordingly, make sure to wipe off any excess oil thoroughly and apply
setting powder again as needed.
7. Fit drum on the drum carriage.
8. Apply toner on both edges of the cleaning blade (front side approximately 35mm and rear side
approximately 20mm).
9. Fit cleaning blade and other parts with the reverse order of removing them.
Notes:
a. Although it is not confirmed that drum blade flipping is heat related, Konica recommends against
storing PM kits in temperatures outside of the specified range of 57 to 219 degrees F. Since this range
may be exceeded in a car trunk, special care may be required. Also guard against a buildup of heat in the
machine due to clogged fuser exhaust filters, machine too close to the wall, or by being near a window
that shines enough light on the back of the machine to increase the internal temperature.
b. Apply setting powder to the ENTIRE drum surface including the outer edges of the drum.
CAUTION: When turning the drum by hand, the setting powder may be removed by fingers contacting
the outer area of the drum surface. Reapply setting powder to these areas.
c. If Konica supplies were used, and the blade was properly lubricated with setting powder or toner,
please send all flipped cleaning blades with serial number of machine, total count, and copy count since
the blade was installed, to:

SOLUTION To scan different standard size originals from the platen glass, and copy them all on the same size USAGE 0
paper, perform the following:
1. Place the first original on the platen glass.
2. Select the desired paper size onto which the originals should be copied.
3. Press the APPLICATION key.
4. Touch the MIXED ORIGINAL key and then the MEMORY COPY key, followed by the OK key on
the LCD.
5. Touch the SCAN key on the LCD.
6. Lift the RADF and place the next original on the platen glass.
7. Touch the SCAN key on the LCD.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until all originals are scanned.
9. Press START/PRINT to have the originals copied. All originals are automatically reduced or
enlarged to fit on the selected paper size.
DESCRIPTIO Lead edge registration for the scanning mode is incorrect and cannot be adjusted. SOLUTION 79833
SOLUTION CAUSE: When the registration timing adjustment in the 36 mode is performed, the scan registration is USAGE 0
also changed, but in the opposite direction (i.e., adjusting the copy registration in order to move the
image toward the lead edge causes the image to move toward the trail edge in the scan mode). This is a
product limitation.
SOLUTION: In the 36 mode, the lead edge adjustment (engine restart timing on page 5-57 in the
7033/7040 Service Manual, 5/98) corrects half the amount of image position difference between
normal copy and scan copy, aligning the images at the same position. Prior to performing this
adjustment, ensure that the drum clock adjustment is completed.
Additionally, in the 36 mode, the reading position adjustment (image read point adjustment page 5-65
in the 7033/7040 Service Manual, 5/98) adjusts read position. All adjustments should be completed
prior to performing this adjustment.

SOLUTION: A finisher (FS105 - PCUA 950407) must be installed on the main body to allow printing
when system software version 4.1.2 is loaded in the print controller.
Note: Upgrading system software version 4.1.2 with the patch still does NOT allow the printer to
function without a finisher.

SOLUTION CAUSE: This is the correct operation for the machine. In non-image area erase mode, the machine is USAGE 1
looking for a distinct definition line between the "sky" (black), and the sheet of paper (white). If a
dark original is used, there is no definition line. The machine will not be able to distinguish where the
darkness from the "sky" ends, and the dark original begins.

SOLUTION CAUSE: Paper exit sensor shaft (p/n 55GA48260) catches on the lever plate (p/n 40AA46250). The USAGE 2
problem may get worse as paper is stacked on the exit tray. This is because the weight of the paper
pulls on the exit door, causing the lever plate and the sensor shaft to come in contact.
SOLUTION: Slightly reposition the entrance guide material (p/n 55GA48170) so that the tension of
the exit door is not excessive.

SOLUTIONS
1. The front door switch (MS1) has failed.
Check the operation of the front door switch by performing the following:
a. Power the copier ON.
b. Monitor the voltage at CN82-5 (gray wire) to ground, and CN82-6 (white wire) to ground.
Note: CN82 is a 6-pin connector located on the rear upper right corner of the copier approximately
1.5 inches below the main power switch (SW1).
c. A steady 24V DC should be observed at both CN82-5 and CN82-6. Any fluctuation in the
observed voltage, while the machine is making copies, would be indicative of internal arcing within the
front door switch.
2. Inconsistent front door switch (MS1).
Inspect for proper MS1 (front door interlock) actuation. The front door interlock actuator (p/n
454011200) may marginally be pushing the plunger of MS1. Replace the actuator with the modified
style (p/n 55GA12240) and, to prevent future problems, replace MS1 (p/n 40AA85010). Refer to

SOLUTION CAUSE: The original registration sensor reflect plate surface has been scratched, causing the RADF to USAGE 1
sense a jam.
SOLUTION: To check the operation of the original registration sensor (PS306), perform the
following:
1. Power the copier OFF.
2. Access the 47 multimode (power the copier ON, while pressing the 4 and 7 keys), input code 60,
press P-03-P.
3. The state of the original registration sensor will be displayed to the right of IN: (located in the dark
blue band at the top of the touchscreen), with no paper present at the original registration sensor,
IN:OFF should be indicated.
4. If IN:ON is indicated in the dark blue band of the touchscreen, the machine is sensing a jam at the
original registration sensor.
5. Open the RADF upper open-close cover (p/n 120A12020). Clean and inspect both the original
registration sensor and the reflect plate (located above the original registration sensor in the upper
open-close cover).
6. The operation of the original registration sensor can be checked by placing a small mirror directly
above the original registration sensor. The state of the original registration sensor should change from
[IN:ON] to [IN:OFF].
7. If the original registration sensor checks properly, the reflect plate is not transmitting the emitter
beam of the original registration sensor to the receiver portion of the original registration sensor.
Replace the reflect plate (p/n 120A45170) as necessary.
