Unit 2 Equations Day 13 Lesson: Video Editing 54 minutes

Objective: Students will edit their math music video using their iPads and iMovie.

Standards: Common Core CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.C.7a : Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions. Show which of these possibilities is the case by successively transforming the given equation into simpler forms, until an equivalent equation of the form x = a, a = a, or a = b results (where a and b are different numbers). CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.C.7b Solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, including equations whose solutions require expanding expressions using the distributive property and collecting like terms. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.8.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-onone, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 8 topics, texts, and issues, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.8.5 Integrate multimedia and visual displays into presentations to clarify information, strengthen claims and evidence, and add interest.

ISTE: NETS Teachers 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity A. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness B. A. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. Students 2: Communication & Collaboration A. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media. D. Contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems Students 4: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making: B. Exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity Preparation: Post Homework assignment on class website Splitters for each group Headphones for each student Materials: iPad for each student, pencils, paper, iMovie, headphones, splitters Direct Instruction: Begin by asking students if they have any questions regarding last nights homework. Correct answers can be found in the teachers edition of the Holt McDougal digital textbook. When answering questions, use the ShowMe app on the iPad that is connected to the overhead projector before moving on. Collect homework. Guided Instruction Teacher will explain that today students will begin editing their math music video on equations using iMovie. Teacher will hand out one splitter for each group and one set of headphones for each student. Students will get back into their groups and complete the editing process of their videos. Students have until the end of class to finish their videos. While students are working teacher will write the homework assignment on the board. Homework Homework will be Study Guide: Review on page 124, numbers 59-67 odd & Page 125, numbers 70-73 odd. Homework will be due when they come into class tomorrow. Closure

Teacher will have each group email their completed video to her by the end of class. Each group will turn in their outline or storyboard by the end of class.
