Consider responsibilities to initiatives taken in or out of school. I have been significantly involved with a variety of leadership roles throughout my high school career. I was on the Liberty High School leadership team while also serving as a peer advisor to new students; this included showing them around the school, introducing them to our staff, and helping them to get involved in our school clubs and sports. My most recent leadership activity was initiating a program that collaborated with KOR Physical Therapy to educate athletes on how to protect themselves from various sports injuries through a free sports clinic. I worked closely with the director and top physical therapists at KOR to organize and implement this event that impacted hundreds of people in my community. Describe any special interests and how you have developed knowledge in these areas. Give examples of your creativity- the ability to see alternatives; take diverse perspectives; come up with many, varied, or

original ideas; or willingness to try new things. I have a passion for health and human services, and see it as a real need in our community. The idea of helping people that are in the middle of an unfortunate circumstance come to a more positive place is really inspirational and satisfying to me, and is something I aspire to do in the future. I want to have a direct impact on people, especially athletes, who may not have adequate resources/lack of knowledge about their physical health. I love to try new things, and have recently explored photography, pottery, and guitar. My strengths lie in sports-related areas, but trying something so different was a really good experience, and I ended up thoroughly enjoying this new direction of creativity. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to address this challenge. Include whether you turned to anyone in facing the challenge, the role the person played, and what you learned about yourself. The most difficult challenge I had to face this year was the decision to incorporate college classes into my busy senior year of high school. I love how much I've been learning and progressing in the courses, but at the same time it has been a challenge to find a balance while managing my time effectively as I have a full schedule plus play competitive varsity sports and volunteer work. In the end, however, I was surprised how I could actually do much more than I ever dreamed if I only managed my time more carefully. It was a careful balance between study time, sports, and still making time for friends and family that I came to develop, and it is a balance that I believe will strengthen and support me for years to come. Explain what you have done to make your community a better place to live. Give examples of specific projects in which you have been involved over time.

I have been continuously involved in community service throughout not only my high school career but for most of my life. I believe that serving others is part of who I am, and I love to get involved in any way possible and make a difference. Some specific projects that I have been involved in over time are yearly Christmas toy drives and preparing Thanksgiving food boxes to those in need through my local church, which I have been doing since I was a little girl along with my family. Another favorite organization that I love being involved with is called "personal attention" which helps elderly and disabled people by cleaning up their yards and helping them with house work. Volunteering is a very rewarding experience and makes my community a better place to live. Describe your experiences facing or witnessing discrimination. Tell us how you responded and what you learned from these experiences and how they have prepared you to contribute to the OSU community. I am African American and was adopted at birth from Houston, Texas. I've grown up in an all white family, and this experience has definitely shaped who I've become. While I haven't experienced direct hostility from others because of my family's racial diversity, I have had to deal with small prejudices along the way. There are always people who do not believe themselves to be prejudiced, but may sometimes show themselves to be insensitive through subtle racial jokes, comments, or careless talk. During these times I have tried my best to continuously hold myself to an unwavering standard of compassion in the midst of an ignorant statement or a thoughtless action. Through these. my family and I continuously strive to be happy and forgiving, and I believe I am better prepared to support others in the OSU community as a result. Articulate the goals you have established for yourself and your efforts to accomplish these. Give at least one specific example that demonstrates your work ethic/diligence. My goal is to graduate high school at the top of my class,

continue competing athletically, and attend a state college to further my education. I want to pursue my dream of becoming either a physical therapist who specializes in sports injuries or an athletic trainer. I feel these positions would offer me the most satisfaction as I want to work with athletes and be helpful in their rehabilitation. My efforts to accomplish these goals are to maintain high academic scores, job shadow at KOR physical therapy and apply to Oregon State University. One example that demonstrates my work ethic is that I partnered up with KOR physical therapy to offer a free sports clinic on protecting the athlete. We brought awareness on how to protect the athlete from sports injuries, important steps you should take if you do injure yourself, and how to train your body to perform at its best. I worked diligently meeting with the director, staff, and marketing department on how to best promote this event to make it successful. It ended up being a huge success and benefited the community greatly.
