CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.11-12.2b Develop the topic thoroughly by selecting the most significant and relevant facts, extended definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples appropriate to the audiences knowledge of the topic. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-12.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-12.5 Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience.

UNIT OBJECTIVES:
All students should be able to Identify topic sentences and supporting details in a typical body paragraph. Write effective paragraphs that o Include a clear topic sentence o Stick to a single main idea without getting sidetracked o Include specific examples, statistics, facts, or quotes that fully support the main idea o Have details that are organized in a way that makes sense o Include transition words, phrases, or sentence to improve the flow of ideas within and between paragraphs Identify problems that make a paragraph less effective Eliminate details that are irrelevant to a paragraphs main idea Revise paragraphs to improve effective paragraph structure Advanced students should be able to Identify the topic and supporting details in high-level writing that doesnt follow typical formulas Write effective paragraphs that are not limited to formulaic structure guidelines Use sophisticated and subtle transitions and connections within and between paragraphs Revise paragraphs to improve variety and originality in paragraph structure
