Educational Ethos:
I am passionate about learning and creating. I work to inspire children to be enthusiastic, independent and capable learners. I want them to be proud of their ability to make connections across the curriculum, and use these links to create beautiful, meaningful work.

Educational Employment:
EXPLORER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (August 2012 ongoing) Class teacher, Fourth grade Explorer is a K-5 elementary school with a social and emotional charter. It is part of the High Tech High group of schools. (http://www.hightechhigh.org/schools/EECS/) SELECTED PROJECTS - Knowing me, knowing you - children use the lens of anthropology to investigate their class community. They use close observation to create self-portraits, interview other class members to write biographies and collect data to see trends across the class. During this first project, we began to establish a culture of critique through several critique cycles and multiple drafts. - Rumfin Publishing Company - children drafted, critiqued and wrote a description of their favorite place in San Diego. After these had been written, each child applied for a different role in our publishing company (which we named Rumfin). Through their work in different teams, children edited, raised money, and worked with HTHMA students to create a front cover using Adobe Illustrator. - A Room of Their Own a project focusing on the immigration stories of people who have come to California and how they have influenced California. Through a combination of fiction and non-fiction, role-play and interviews we are finding out more about the people around us. We will then use this information to create a room for someone that we have learned about, which will make them feel like valued and known. TEACHER LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - I am in my first year of the Teacher Leadership Masters Program at the High Tech High Graduate School of Education. - Odyssey devised and presented a workshop for new teachers on how to implement critique in the elementary classroom. - Deeper Learning 2013 attended conference and shared examples of student work in a looking at student work session. - Staff Development have collaborated with other teachers to design and run staff development sessions on project design and problem solving in math.

KILMORIE PRIMARY SCHOOL (September 2007 2012) Class teacher, Art Subject Leader and Design & Technology (DT) Subject Leader Kilmorie Primary School is an inclusive community school with an emphasis on creative, crosscurricular education (www.kilmorieschool.co.uk). Rated outstanding (highest grade) in my performance management observation, and specially commended for personalising learning for every child including those with special educational needs. Designed out-of-school learning experiences in collaboration with my partner teacher, including trips to museums, galleries, parks, and theatres. Worked with art experts to create a rich, practice-based curriculum for the whole school, with the opportunity for children to develop skills in diverse media. Raised the quality of student art work across the school by encouraging close observation, allowing time for multiple drafts, and creating portfolios of excellent student work for both teachers and pupils to peruse. Supported teachers with art and design planning and ensured that staff development addressed teachers skill deficits. Created and delivered presentations to staff across three schools on how to be a good subject leader.
