CIRCULATION POLICY: 1. A maximum of 4 books may be checked out to students. 2. Some encyclopedias are available for overnight checkout.

Reference materials do not circulate. 3. The checkout period is 3 weeks. With the possibility to renew materials twice, with the exception of new materials which can only be renewed once. 4. There is a one-week grace period for all overdue books. If the book is not returned after the grace period ends, no more books will be allowed to be checked out until said book is returned. 5. The library will maintain the confidentiality of its users and their library accounts in accord with state laws. 6. Parents or guardians have the right to restrict certain materials from their childs circulation habits, if and only if the child is a minor. This policy was derived from a combination of Meadowbrook High School Librarys circulation policy (1-5), the Jefferson County Public Librarys circulation policy (6), and my own ideas about a school circulation policy. There is very little research on circulation that is reliable because most circulation surveys are conducted locally. Circulation reports are also rare because of the need to protect patrons confidentiality. This may be the most important part of the circulation policy because the library wants to protect patrons confidentiality as highlighted in the library mission statement: goal I. Many of the circulation policies that I looked at had checkout periods ranging from 2-3 weeks. Research shows that the more time a student has with materials the more information he or she will retain (Guthrie 1980). A checkout period of three weeks should allow for students to have substantial time with the materials and there is the opportunity to renew materials if more time is needed. The limit on renewals for new materials is in place because new materials will likely be popular and students will want that material once it is available with interest waning as time progresses.
