* ST-47 Self-Proving Vehicle Static Grounding System

Introduction to the ST-47 Self Proving System

The ST - 47 Self Proving Vehicle Static Grounding System, is a line powered, self proving, vehicle ground verification system. It is used to insure that a safe static ground path exists between a terminal loading rack and a tank vehicle which is in the process of loading or unloading a hazardous product. The ST - 47 can be used in one of three modes, those modes being: * Wire Through * Stand - Alone * Non Self - Proving (Resistive mode) The ST - 47 can also be fitted with optional front panel lamps that are used to indicate: * Grounded - Green Lamp * Non Grounded - Red lamp And a optional selector switch that can be used to turn the module: * ON * Off or * Bypass

The ST - 47 System consists of a Ground Bolt and Control Module.

Scully Ground Bolt mounted on the vehicle

1. With the overfill plug connected to the socket on the vehicle, a intrinsically safe signal is sent to the Ground Bolt by way of pin 9. 2. Verification that the vehicles chassis and sockets grounds are connected together, is seen by the completion of the Ground Bolt circuit through pin 10 of the socket.

Intrinsically Wired Mode (Wired Through)

In the intrinsically wired mode of operation, an intrinsically safe signal is wired through the rack controller plug to the Ground Bolt mounted on the vehicle chassis. If the module senses a proper static ground connection, the module generates a permissive contact closure that is generally wired in series with the Scully Overfill Prevention System.

Stand Alone Mode

In the stand alone mode, the ST-47 works the same as it does in the wired through mode, the major different being that the signal is sent to the Scully Ground Ball instead of a Ground Bolt. The Ground Ball a has a isolated tip so the signal can be applied to the electronics inside and then returns through the ground return wire in the cable plug. Also the signal is sent through separate plug rather than through the overfill prevention plug that is connected to the rack controller. This plug has only two wires, one sending the proving signal to the Ground Ball, the other is the earth ground (return signal). The permissive and non-permissive contacts are then wired to control product flow directly.

The Non Self Proving Mode (Resistive Mode)

In this mode, the ST-47 is used as a resistive ground proving device only, utilizing an isolated jaw grounding clamp connected to the vehicle. In this way, a vehicle without a Scully Ground Ball or Bolt can be loaded, and the ground proven. However the Cheat Resistance of the Ground Ball or Bolt electronics is lost.

The ST-47 model designation is the basic building block for numerous systems. This unit is powered by line voltage and provides SPST relay contact for loading control. Variations using the basic module are indicated by the suffix after the model number.
ELKIndicates the ST-47 module is housed in an explosion-proof housing. Indicates the ST-47 module is fitted with red and green indicator lamps. Indicates that the ST-47 unit is fitted with a key operated or lockable Bypass Switch permitting controller over-ride of non permissive state
