II. Objective(s) Students will be able to use a decision model to determine whether they should rent or buy a home.

III. Materials

-Smart Board -Note sheet -Activity Sheet -Pencil -Laptop or cell phone

IV. Presentation

Getting Started (7 Minutes): The teacher will greet students and inform them of the agenda of the day. The teacher will play a video that illustrates the thought process of what many individuals face when searching for a home. At the end, students will be given 30 seconds to write down their initial thoughts. Class Notes (15 Minutes):- Students will be given a note sheet to correspond with the powerpoint presentation. 1. The instructor will review what was learned last class by reviewing the steps in the PACED decision making model, by asking students what each letter is. 2. Prompting students to review the steps along the way, the instructor will identify our problem, how do we find a place to live, and present the alternatives of buying or leasing. The instructor will ask how this relates to what we learned about buying vs. leasing a car. 3. The teacher will present criteria individuals should consider when buying/renting a home, and ask for student input if there are other things to consider. 4. The instructor will then ask what the next step is in the model, evaluate. The instructor will present the process of renting and buying, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. 5. The instructor will briefly review the powerpoint. Application (20 Minutes): Using their knowledge of the PACED model and the power point, students will be given an activity to do in their

Based on the budget they have made for their housing, as a group they will determine their criteria. They will use websites provided to look up a potential home to buy in their budget, and they will complete a chart, including the house information and insurance premium. They will complete the chart for a home/apartment to rent as well. Using their research, they will determine whether they want to buy or rent their home. They will update their profiles to reflect this change.

V. Assessment Ongoing formative assessment will occur through prompting in the review of the PACED model, as well as through discussion of the model in the notes. Another formative assessment will be conducted through collection of their activity, as well as their notes.

VI. Differentiation

By using a video, notes, and independent research to present the same information, students with different learning preferences as well as abilities will have different modes of information transmission. Additionally, students who are struggling will be working with students of varied abilities, to benefit in a cooperative learning environment.

VII. Technology

We will be using the Smart Board to fill out notes together and watch a video from YouTube. Additionally, students will be using their laptop/tablets and cell phones to look up housing information.
