What did you benefit from going to the library? 1.) Going to the library for last class I learnt a lot that I didnt know before. As far as myself, being a transfer student I basically had to learn a lot on my own. I never got to experience someone actually sitting down or having a mini lesson on how to use the library site. I figured out that not only can you enter keywords and find sources that are related to your topic. But as well as narrow the year and time period you would like to get the research from for your paper. It helped me improve my bibliography, so that I could fine updated resources that had more credibility to my topic. When resourcing instead of looking for the fastest source, I actually paid great detailed to the date published, author, and key points of it when reading it through. The reason why I thought this would be a great add in my e-portfolio, because it not only was a big assist when it came to writing my bibliography. But it also allowed me to find updated resources in the near future of my papers. Being able to know my way around the library is a great advantage for me being on campus.

What is Plagiarism? Is it ok that he plagiarized his speech? 2.) Plagiarism as we all know happens to be known as a big deal. We happen re-hear this over and over in the early days as a middle school student. Its basically a word that would be stuck with you basically for the rest of your life. For a person wanting and stating to be a future president, but doesnt even have the commonsense to right his own words is not ok. If he plagiarized a speech, just happen to think what is endanger to this nation if he is the next president.

Adding this journal in my portfolio, I could realize I was very passionate about him not being president and the topic of plagiarism. It brings me back to how, plagiarism was a big deal back then and still today is just that. I think my professor wanted to reiterate it back in our heads the severity of it.

What is rhetoric? 3.) The craziest thing is that this was the topic of my public speaking class as soon as we walked in. Its still a word I always heard, here and there, but didnt quite understand the meaning. But as it was describe in my class I believe that its the meaning that refers to the study and uses of written, spoken and visual language. We also discussed Aristotle the person who came up with ethos, pathos, and logos.

The reason why I choose this journal to be added into my e-portfolio is because it was one of the first topics discussed in this class. It had to be added into our rhetoric analysis; and wasnt sure about the word or the meaning. So having to do research as well as fine out the meaning of the word but a lot of things in perspective. I not only found the relation to the three words and how to use in a paper, but as well as the definition of rhetoric.

Government funding should never be used to support art that the majority of the population finds distasteful of objectionable. 4.) Art is art; anyone can have their own opinion of how art should be displayed. Its not right to point a finger at something, and say its not right because of ones values or beliefs. We live in a place where getting to express yourself no matter how crazy it is to someone else your still allowed to do it. And you never know how someone else can view something. For example a basic pen, to me a pen is a pen, but for people who design pens could have a better eye for them. They could not only be obsessed with the pen but as could also view it as art. So that being said Government funding should cover everyone ideas and thoughts, and not discriminate against certain pieces of art. This journal was a great debate in our classroom, discussed between my peers. This topic stood out to me the most; and to see how my peers in the classroom viewed the quote above was surprising. In my head I thought that there was no way a person could literally disagree with what we were saying as far as everything is art. But that day I saw both sides of the argument, I believe our debates in the class made us become closer.

True beauty is found not in one exceptional, but one commonplace 5.) This quote is very debatable in many ways, depending on the person. I disagree with this quote because to me beauty is found in ones eye of its beholder. The quote to me means

that they are different views of beauty in everyone views. Something to me that is beautiful, to someone else could be nothing or something not appealing to them as much. Which means beauty can vary in many ways, so just to say its found in a common place is not true. I felt as if this needed to be added in my portfolio because once again the topic was discussed in class I was once again surprised to see how people reacted to the quote. Some were saying they agree, and some were disagreeing unexpectedly. This to me was an eye opener to how many people stereotypes where different from mine, and who was I to judge their beliefs and values as well.

6.) This picture is example to how females may feel on a daily basis about their weight. This happens to be a positive expressing that even if youre overweight you could still have a healthy life. When it comes to ethos there are people out there that happen to relate to this because they are some many girls out there that seem to believe if youre not a zero then youre not beautiful. This is a saying to not only encourage maybe the younger generation but as well as the older generation as well.

This assignment was something that I would not expect an English professor to give out to the students. But Im glad it was added it took a further into the ethos,

pathos, and logos part of Aristotle views. It surprisingly helped me write my rhetoric analysis better by having a better understanding of the words. And I could honestly say it also helped me on relating my topics to the audience I was talking to. Whether I was trying to reach the emotion side, peruse, or even the informative part of the audience.
