MEMORANDUM To: Melodee Lambert & BUS 2200 Colleagues

From: Predrag Kalin Date: RE: Oct. 25, 2013 Service Learning Project Proposal to Provide an All in One New Student Booklet

OVERVIEW I propose we compile a booklet that helps answer any questions new students would have about SLCC. We will interview officials from the school about policies and general guidelines. I know that when I was a new student here, I was overwhelmed by the different piles of papers regarding credits, classes, financial aid, parking, finals, grades, etc. This booklet would aim to put all of that information in one place, and make it easier to understand. The transition from high school to college is a big one; it shouldnt be harder than it already is. The potential benefits for BUS 2200 students include: Improving our business communications skills via interviews, research, writing, critical thinking, and teamwork communication. Designing a booklet will help improve our experience in layout, readability, design, etc. Expanding our knowledge of SLCC policies, procedures, and general guidelines.

RATIONALE- Benefits for Business 2200 Colleagues Creating this booklet will benefit BUS 2200 students, both new and old. As noted above, producing the booklet will provide us an opportunity to: Interview, read, research, think, and collaborate effectively. Design a booklet that will improve our overall experience in future business document design. Provide a service to both the school and any new students. Whether they be just getting out of high school or coming back to college after a few years.

Benefits for target audience Employees at the school will also benefit. The booklet will provide them with an easier way to get information out to students, instead of wasting paper and money on multiple documents. It will potentially save them time too. With every new student receiving one of these in the first week, the employees will have to spend less time answering questions.

PLAN/TIME FRAME Methodologies To accomplish the goals, we will need to conduct interviews, research information from the SLCC website, collect and compile the data in a booklet. Weeks 1-2 Weeks 3-4 Weeks 5-6 Week 7 Begin our approach; start setting up interviews and research. Conduct interviews, and gather all research information. Work on the booklet, compile information Present to class

PERSONNEL The project will require 3 or 4 people. Each group member will begin by either interviewing an employee here, or researching information online. After taking notes from both, we can start to compile all of it in a basic draft of the document. Then the group will collaborate on how we want to summarize and separate the information in the booklet.
