Aaron Conner Speaker Reflection Dr. Rogers On Friday November 1, 2013, Dr.

. Rogers came in to talk to us about data driven instruction. We talked about why data driven instruction is important and she gave us a powerpoint slide show to show us some information about it. She also handed out a few sheets of paper with different examples of data from different situations and schools. Her slides talked about how data driven instruction is the drive behind instruction and provides curriculum continuity. This means that the data or the results from the students are what provide the information necessary to make changes or sustains in the curriculum that will positively influence the students. The slides also talked about how data driven instruction allows for differentiation between the students. The collected data allows teachers to categorize students and give them the support or challenges that they need. Both students and teachers are encouraged by the data driven instruction to self-monitor and be their own motivator. The slides finally stated that data driven instruction allows teachers to become diagnosticians. The most memorable part of her presentation was the video that she showed of a teacher who made a difference in the life of a boy whose mother died. Most of the class was in tears at the end of the video and everyone including me was touched at the impact this teacher made and on the impact that we could have on an untold number of children throughout our careers. I love kids and personally have lost a parent and know the importance of role models in school. School is where young kids spend most of their time and so it is important that there are positive mentors and teachers that they can go to and be safe. I want to make a difference in someones life and Dr. Rogers presentation gave me even more motivation.
