TALLER DE PAZ : COMMUNITY LEARNING ACTION PROJECT Funding, training, and grassroots international internships for Swarthmore students
Program Overview The Taller de Paz Community Learning Action Project is a new program designed to expand the scope of Taller de Pazs (TdP) vision and impact to a broader circle of Swarthmore students. TdP was founded by Swarthmore students in 2009 with the mission of creating critical discourse and action for peace among displaced youth in Bogot, Colombia. For four years Swarthmore students developed and implemented dynamic and thoughtful workshops. As TdPs mission continues to evolve, TdP now seeks to deepen its roots at Swarthmore and create more opportunities for Swarthmore students to critically engage with issues of social inequality and marginalization in Bogot and elsewhere. To achieve this, TdP has partnered with Il Nido del Gufo, a community library and international education NGO located in Suba, a locality of Bogot. Il Nido del Gufo provides a variety of workshops and programs for disadvantaged youth living in the neighborhoods of Suba.. TdP will offer students the opportunity to create their own educational workshops in collaboration with the Il Nido Del Gufo staff. This project will also be supported by Omprakash (www.omprakash.org), a web-based network of grassroots social projects in over forty countries. As part of the TdP Community Learning Action Project, students will be able to participate in the Omprakash EdGE (Education through Global Engagement) program, a challenging online curriculum designed to prepare students for immersive international internships within the Omprakash network. Through the EdGE program, which will be facilitated by TdP staff and Omprakash mentors, students will be able to rigorously prepare for and plan their project as well as connect with other students worldwide who are challenging similar issues.
