Developmental Appropriateness or Cross-curricular connections: Students need to know how to conduct a 3/4 pattern and a 4/4 pattern. Assessment(s) of the Objectives:
What assessment(s) will you use to determine student learning (pre, during, post)? Each objective should be aligned with an assessment. Lesson Objective(s) Assessment(s) of the Objective(s) Pre I will review the conducting patterns of 3/4 and 4/4 with the students. During I will teach the students a 2/4 conducting pattern and will rehearse with them. Post I will play the piece The Ants Go Marching and have them conduct it to see if they can conduct a 2/4 pattern at fifty percent correctness. Use of Formative Assessment I used the pre- assessment to determine if students needed to review previous conducting patterns to start the 2/4 pattern. The during- assessment was used to teach the 2/4 pattern and ingrain the technique into their minds. The post- assessment was used to evaluate if students understood how to conduct a 2/4 pattern at fifty percent correctness.

1. The students will be able to play to conduct a 2/4 pattern at fifty percent correctness.

Lander University Teacher Education Lesson Plan Template 2. The students will know a variety of careers in music. Pre I will ask students if they knew that they could have a job being a musician or doing something that relates to music. During I will have a classroom discussion about the different types of jobs they could have in music. Post I will have the students write on the board all the jobs we had in our discussion of jobs in music. I used the pre- assessment to determine if they knew that they could have a job in music. The during- assessment was used to determine all the career paths in the music track. The post- assessment was used to remind students of the jobs we talked about by having them write it on the board.

Rev. 2013

Accommodations:
I will review longer with the students if they are struggling with the 3/4 or 4/4 conducting pattern. I will also spend more time on the piece The Ants Go Marching to get the students to at least fifty percent correctness with a 2/4 pattern.

Materials: Smart Board, White Board, The Ants Go Marching, Markers Procedures:
1. I will review the conducting patterns 3/4 and 4/4 with the students. 2. After we have spent time reviewing, I will ask students to tell me about the songs they conducted at home. I gave them homework to conduct their favorite song when I previously taught them. 3. Next I will teach the students how to conduct a 2/4 pattern. 4. After I feel they understand how to conduct this new pattern we will conduct to the piece, The Ants Go Marching. 5. We will continue to rehearse this piece of music until they all can conduct at fifty percent correctness. 6. When we have finish with conduct I will ask them if they know they could have a job in music. 7. I will open a classroom discussion about all the jobs in music. 8. When we are done discussing and thought up all the possibilities, I will have students write each job on the board to help them remember the jobs in music.

Activity Analysis: (must show use of TWS 1 data)

I plan on having the students continue their progress in learning the various conducting patterns. By this point the students will know how to conduct a 2/4, 3/4, and a 4/4 pattern. These will help them know what Mrs. Brewer is trying to get them to do when she conducts them in the future. For the second activity I plan on having a open discussion with the students about all the possible career tracks in music. Although these students are young, it is a good idea to help to start thinking about what kind of things they will want to pursue in middle school and high school.
