I do not feel like I was able to write about what I was being asked to write about. I do not really have any reading or writing memories. I tried my best and I could only find a couple things to write about. I graded myself as proficient in all of the criterias on the rubric. I feel like I was pretty successful with my progress work and it demonstrated my development and revision of this working draft. I feel like I was in between proficient and developing in the rhetorical knowledge criteria. Since I did not really have any experiences to write about, I felt like it was hard to clearly define my purpose. I ended up grading myself as proficient though, because I tried my hardest to define it and make it clear. I graded myself as proficient in the critical thinking and writing growth criteria as well. I stayed on topic and tried to keep the paper interesting and relatable to high school and college students. At last, I graded myself as proficient on the knowledge of conventions criteria. I am pretty confident on the readability of my paper. I did good on the wording and phrasing within the paper and I used words appropriately and had good grammar throughout the paper. I do not feel like this is going to be one of my best papers because like I mentioned before, I hardly had any memories to reflect on. Thanks for reading! Tiffany Harlan

On August 28th, we discussed what our first working draft was going to be on. This shows my brainstorming ideas on what influenced me to be a literate person. Then I created a time line of the most important things that have influenced me. I included the year and an image to represent this memory.
On the same day, we wrote about our timeline. I wrote what I included in my timeline and why. I also included some other feelings that I had about this topic.
On September 4th, we discussed different audiences, the purpose that audience, and the voice/tone we would use. Then I wrote down who my audience and purpose was and this helped me stay focused while I continued writing.
Working Draft I consider myself to be a literate person but not because I have had many great contributors or events that impacted me. Every five your old is taught how to read and write in elementary school. I was not given a choice; I was told I needed to do to it and I did. I honestly do not know who first started teaching me to read and write. I have no interest in reading unless it is about current events and I have no interest in writing but I do because I have to. People have to know how to read and write to get by in everyday life. I cannot think of any reading or writing memories I have before spring of 2011. I do remember reading The Great Gatsby in class but the only reason I remember that is because we watched the movie as we read the book. If it was not for the movie, it would have faded away in my memory like every other book I have ever read. I am not the type of person to read a book for enjoyment so I only do it when I am assigned to. I guess since I dislike it so much, I do not remember what I read. In 2012, I was a senior in high school and we were required to do a senior project. We had to decide what we wanted our project to be on, research it, write about it, experience it, and then present it. That project took up a lot of the semester and I put a lot of hard work into the research and my paper so I definitely remember every single step. Also, that project determined if we graduated or not. Research papers are the worst papers in my opinion because you have to use publishers work but reword it into your own words and then cite it. It is an annoying process and I think research papers are my weakest. In the spring semester of 2012, I took critical literacy at the college I attend, Gardner-Webb. Critical literacy is an English class that students get put into when they do not score high enough to be placed into composition 101 which is usually the first English a student takes. The students in this class needed more experience writing and I was one of them. This class actually did change the way I felt
about writing. The professor helped me understand a lot about writing and how to write that I did not understand before. She also let me write about what interested me so that made writing not so bad. I had to write a lot of working drafts and go back and revise them and choose the ones I wanted to make a polished piece. This class helped me a lot and changed my view on writing. I do not like to read and write but I dont hate it as much as I did before my freshman year at Gardner-Webb. I am thankful for everyone that has influenced me to read/write.

My love for reading and writing grows every day because the older I get, the more essential it becomes. My interest to read has increased and my hate for writing has decreased. Now that I understand more about writing, it comes easier to me and I am more confident about what I am writing. Even though I do not remember a lot of details that contributed to me becoming a literate person, I know a lot of caring people contributed throughout the years that I am very thankful for.
