Hoodoo, Voodoo and What Do?

The Hyatt Hoodoo books have been popular in occult circles for over 10 years now, being pushed mostly by an author occult shop owner for personal profit. I will detail this person and business later in review of the Hyatt series of books. It is important to inform people about this person and her business, as she is one of the few proponents of this system. But, first I will cover Hyatt and his work. We can look at the Hoodoo series as a kind of modern grimoire and like most grimoires produced in the last hundred years they are compiled by uneducated, ignorant people like Hyatt, Skinner and many others. Most of these people at least pretend to be occultists of some type or another. Hyatt was a Christian Minister all his life, he produced a Folklore series of books, the Hoodoo series and books on his own family heritage. Something to note for future purposes to come. While Folklore is mostly silly wives tales and funny superstitions, something Hyatt should be able to understand without a problem. Hoodoo is witchcraft and Hyatt states this, why he would want to compile witchcraft information is kind of a mystery, to most people. The Guild has found out what his true reason for doing this was and I will detail this soon. There is a lot about Hyatt which few people know. People like to credit Hyatt as this Master of indirect occultism. While this work is interesting, it is far from a creditable accounting of Hoodoo in any manner whatsoever. Like all texts masquerading as a scientific study of a primitive cultures practices, without having any background to judge these practices, it is dangerous and profane! While some credit is due for the compiling of this

massive work, along with the Folklore series, it is a massive compiling of what? Hyatt chose not to edit and clarify much of anything. Why would you allow slang to cloud the understanding of the subject matter in general? If you are going to compile information about a subject matter like Southern Rural Witchcraft, why would you not clarify the practices? There is a good reason in Hyatts mind for deliberately not doing this. He knew there would be all kinds of misinterpretations of the information and even made sure to incorrectly print the name of the company that Hoodoo practitioners used to buy supplies. Interesting a company in the Hoodoo strong hold of Chicago! Real authentic Hoodoo goods from Chicago. This should tell you a lot how authentic Hoodoo in general is. If you think this was just bad research procedure, youre wrong. The Oxford educated Minister knew very well, what proper research procedures were. The lack of proper clarification which any researcher would have done, was done completely on purpose. Hyatt was not interested in presently a factual detailed research of actual practices, he wanted to show the evils of pagan witchcraft practices of ignorant godless Negros. It is alleged that Hyatt was a racist and at the very least, as a Christian Minister all his life, ultimately had little respect for practitioners of witchcraft. He also did not interview non-blacks, as he wanted to show the evils of the Negros, being extremely poor, he thought he could buy them cheap. Hyatt also recorded his interviews, from what he called his informants on over 3000 tapes. It took a professional transcriber a few years to transcribe the tapes. I just pointed out one error, how many hundreds more are there from tapes heavily imbued with difficult slang? How could the transcriber possibly understand the heavy accents and slang, from a primitive recording device of that time? Like Hyatt the transcriber had no knowledge of Hoodoo whatsoever. It is also odd to use the term informants, like they were involved in a criminal act. From Hyatts perspective, they probably were committing a crime against god. Hoodoo, Voodoo and Santeria all give lip service to Christian Gods and Saints. Just like ancient grimoires, the practices are combined with bible verses, psalms and the calling of Saints. This was the only way occultists could practice, was by Christianizing the entire practice. Modern practitioners do not even understand the pagan connection now and see these practices as a form of Christian Spiritual

beliefs. Almost all Hoodoo practitioners consider themselves good Christians doing Gods work through the tools provided here on the natural earth. Hoodoo practitioners see Christian beliefs and Hoodoo as one and the same. As with most Witchcraft, there are strong links to Gods and Goddesses. Yet, the average Christian does not accept these practices as Christian, they clearly see it as Witchcraft which is highly condemned. Hyatt was an Anglican Minister who believed the Old and New Testaments as "containing all things necessary for salvation" and as being the rule and ultimate standard of faith. Certainly Hoodoo practices do not fit into this believe system. The Anglicans or Church of England are not extreme conservatives but certainly are not liberal. The American South is known for its strange Christian cults, including snake handlers and other racial practices. Even these racial cults condemn witchcraft in all forms. As a general rule, religion is against magic because it is personal will and not God guided. Religion believes that only God should guide you and the practice of determining your own destiny is against Gods will and as such is evil. The Bible clearly states Witches should be murdered, there is no grey area here. Hyatt clearly states Hoodoo is witchcraft. What further makes his research very questionable, is that Hoodoo or Southern Rural Witchcraft was first practiced by Whites from Europe! The word Hoodoo comes from Irish or old English origins. Few know that Southern America was settled by and even supported during the American Civil War by the British. Britain includes all of the United Kingdom including Ireland, Wales etc. The famous Voodoo Doll does not come from the Voodoo or Hoodoo traditions, it was a European practice that was adapted by Voodoo and Hoodoo practitioners. It is interesting to note that most Hoodoo practitioners and businesses on the Web now, appear to be owned and run by White people. While Voodoo practitioners and businesses have much more Black people involvement. The ignoring of White Hoodoo practitioners make Hyatts research of the subject very incomplete. If Hyatt was really interested in learning about traditional Hoodoo, he would include both Negros and Whites in his research. The fact that he made this into a negro practice shows his hidden agenda and his racist beliefs. I also

assume White Southerners had little interest in speaking with this English Church Minister. The South is not known for its Anglican Church following. To define Hoodoo and Voodoo is easy. There are long boring explanations of these simple practices on the Net if you want to waste time reading them. Hoodoo is a Southern American Witchcraft tradition brought to the New World from Europe that was later passed to the Negro slaves, which adapted it and added in their own personal practices. It is not a Black African tradition like Voodoo is. Hoodoo is just basic witchcraft in a very primitive old world form. The IGOS Witchcraft Sorcery Course brings this and others forms Witchcraft into modern understanding in a useable tested system with 40 years of research behind it. Witchcraft is generally defined as an Earth Based tradition, this is detailed in my Foundations Series on Traditions. Voodoo is more like Ritual Magic, dealing with Spirits. The variations of both these Traditions from place to place, country to country are vast. But, magical root based practices are pure witchcraft without a doubt and Voodoo Spirit evocation is pure Ritual Magic. Going into all the differences has little value to the average occultist. It is ill informed researchers like Hyatt that have incorrectly defined Hoodoo as a Negro witchcraft practice. It is also interesting to note, that in Hoodoo and Voodoo circles, the most sought after text was the Red Dragon Grimoire. It was prized above all other texts and many Hoodoo practitioners being of French origins, were able to get copies of this rare grimoire before the first mass marketed English edition translated by Dr. Robert Blanchard and published by IGOS in the early 1990s was made available. This shows the impact and corruption of Hoodoo and Voodoo with European magical traditions going back hundreds of years. European witchcraft practices are much better known and traditional then Hoodoo and Voodoo traditions which have been transported all over the world and in the process corrupted beyond the average tradition from Europe. These are all serious problems for understanding the subject matter and making a serious study of a unique practice. This lack of understanding puts the entire study in great question. Collecting data is interesting but, without knowledge of

what is being collected and eliminating confusion of slang terminology, the entire research is brought down to the most base level of research. Leaving the reader to figure things out for themselves. I am sure most modern grimoire translators are proud of Hyatt, since they have done the same similar bad research and clarifications. Hyatt could not understand even the basics of what was being told him. Being a Christian Minister, he knows only what the rituals in his church meant and were used for. He was not a practicing occultist and as such could be told anything without knowing if there is any basis in facts to it whatsoever. Any wise Root Worker would never reveal their secrets especially to a white Christian Priest! They could tell him anything of their choosing, which they could say with a straight face and he would take it as fact. There is so much non-sense in the Hoodoo series, I am sure the Root Workers had big laugh and a fine drink of Bourbon with the money they were paid. And yes they were paid for their information, making it all the more fishy as to the truth of their statements. If there is one universal law or practice in magic, it is secrecy. No tradition ever shares secrets with others, especially with hostile religions and foreigners of your culture. Of course, those making profits from the sale of Hoodoo products never want to point these things out. It is easier to have a bible of non-sense to hold up for fools to believe in. Like Grimoires, it does not mean this collection of stuff, is worthless, it means to look at it with an educated eye and filter out what is possibly good information based on knowledge gained from other systems. Instead of going through thousands of pages of confused, thrown together information of unknown creditability, buy the inexpensive IGOS Witchcraft Sorcery course with proven information and authentic formulas available for purchase. Get busy doing, instead of studying endless unproven country bumpkin systems that are heavily fictionalized! In the book Old Style Conjure by Starr, who comes off as an authentic Root Worker, who knows her craft. This book is highly recommended for those seeking authentic Hoodoo and is filled with practical real information, she states she thinks that 60% of the information in the Hyatt books are total lies. I would say more like 80 to 90 percent would be more like it. Lots of the practices just do not make sense and only a knowledgeable Root Worker would be able to pick out

what is real and what is not. She also questions why black folk would talk to a white Minister and reveal secrets to him. Being poor people, she sees them taking the money and supplying fantasy not, real rituals or practices. She grew up in the area and knows firsthand the people. I have found similar hostile responses from Root Workers and occultists of all kinds to sharing knowledge, even when a practicing occultist or Guild approached them. It makes no sense that Root Workers would offer secret rituals, especially those that work and are used in their own practices for profit. It is not only revealing secret information to the white man but, giving it to possible competition. There is a lot of basic wisdom and hard core authentic training in her book. It is a must for anyone interested in Hoodoo, real Hoodoo. Hyatt wanted to compile a botched up confusing history of evil witchcraft practices performed by the Negros in the south. He had no interest in putting together the correct actual practices and did his best to confuse what was given to him. He did not want this research to turn into a practical guide of Hoodoo witchcraft. On the contrary, he wanted this information to detail the stupidity of primitive non-Christian beliefs. He stated he did not want his books reprinted in the future and become training manuals for witchcraft. He did not want to promote witchcraft in any manner whatsoever. This is the reason for the terrible format and organization of the books. This was modified with the final volume that serves as a reference to all the volumes but, was never published. Still, he did not want this to become a training course in witchcraft. Hyatt did this research not to record witchcraft practices but, to show the silly folly of witchcraft. Those reading the books were expected to see the silliness of the practices, filled with superstitions that the average person would see as non-sense and evil. Hyatt was also involved in trying to convert these witches to a more traditional Christian faith. He wrote a book on his own heritage but, nothing on black heritage or whites involved in witchcraft. I find this odd. It is also a questionable research process to use such a large number of informants. It is hard to believe there are that many qualified professional Root Workers. This much input from so many different people, causes a mass of

contradictions and confusion. Was Hyatt doing this deliberately and trying to show how wide spread the Hoodoo practices were? This combined with the questionable information provided him, makes this entire series of questionable value. Those so-called researchers that look at this research with awe, do not understand occultism, black culture and what are told outsiders. Witchcraft is an art and it changes from person to person. The Guild believes there is a core scientific practice to all occultism. But, even in common science, this ends as the scientist starts to express their theories and beliefs on what is happening past the basic foundations of science. My booklet Ancient Grimoires Pulp Fiction or Magical Guides? sums up the worth of this series. You will learn a great deal by reading this booklet. To sum it up, this Hoodoo Series has interesting value to properly educated occultists that understand what makes sense and what does not in a basic witchcraft and Hoodoo sense, just as the author Starr stated. Going through the book without proper knowledge, will lead the user into all kinds of failures and possible negative results. It also must be understood that the practices are very dated as are the formulas listed. New essential oils are very powerful and pure. The use of farm and rural products from animals and wildlife are difficult to obtain and outdated in modern witchcraft. Old is not better, just because it is old. Modern Witchcraft has developed into a science that is proven and effective. The practices listed in this series are the opposite. While interesting as a whole, and to pick through for interesting practices, it requires a skilled Root Worker or Occultist to do so. IGOS has proven witchcraft products and formulas, many taken from Voodoo and Hoodoo traditions that are available to the public now, including Hoodoo based formulas. (see the page detailing this at the end of this commentary.) It is also important to note that Hyatt books were self-published by an affluent relative or family money. Even those he appeared to have a following in the Folklore College Community, none of these institutions were willing to publish books on this obscure subject matter nor written and researched in this manner.

This was Hyatts claim to fame in his last part of life. A mission from God you could say.

Black Lodge Disinformation Agents

For years the Guild has ignored libel written about us by jealous competition on the web. This libel will no longer be tolerated and I will answer each one with the truth. I am tired of self-appointed uneducated occultists, pedophile book dealers, Satanist Publishers and common street criminals dominating occultism and attacking the Guild. The reason I am writing the following is because Cat Yronwode is the main pusher of faux Hoodoo for personal profit. Finding this opening in occultism and the Hyatt books, Yronwode saw a big bucks and ran after it. Cat Yronwode and her satanic husband, Nagasiva Yronwode, love to attack others and publish information that is completely incorrect. So much for her professional research abilities. Why do I know this? Because she has and is publishing lies about the Guild, Me and Brother Moloch. Even after e-mailing her about the incorrect listings of IGOS organizations and those involved in them, she chooses to keep lies online. This just proves my point on the creditability of Lucky Mojo and Yronwode. These lies and lists of IGOS organizations was placed online for search engines to find and direct people looking for IGOS to her site. In another words to promote her business using IGOS. She have never contacted the Guild to get correct information and tries to discredit me by making statements about my Alien involvements, which I am very proud of and freely state on the Guild website. If she is going to publish lies online and has not bothered to research the facts, what do you think she prints in her books? Are these facts or information to make money from? Cat viciously attacked Brother Moloch online after a minor disagreement in a forum. Not only did she attack Brother Moloch but, me and IGOS without knowing anything about any of us. Miss know-it-all, could not stand even a basic disagreement. And attacked with her nasty true satanic self. I will be writing an

article on Yronwode in my Stooges of the Occult series coming out soon, with links to her Satanic husbands information and her bio, listing no occult training whatsoever. It is important to understand the main proponent of Hyatt is Yronwode for personal profit. Her book and course are all taken from Hyatt information, making them poor at best. The life story told me by her on the phone is very different than the online story. Her bio is interesting in that it contains nothing to do with occultism because, she has no occult training. Yronwode , the hippie and comic book writer, produces junk products made from the cheapest lowest level ingredients available. Her transmission fluid based oils are a complete joke with a tiny bit of self-grown herbs placed in them and with her comic book style labels. Her main supplier is Indio Products, which offers low cost interesting products like talismans and other basic supplies but, whos oils and incenses are nothing but common junk. Not only that they are very over priced at $7.00 each for pure junk. The truth about Yronwode is that she is Black Lodge, she is a Satanist. Do you want to learn Hoodoo from a Satanist? The Satanic links are on her site, they are not highlighted but, they are there for all to see. It is amazing how these Black Lodge members get away with their evil and the Guild is attacked for assisting occult education by providing links. It is an insult to Hoodoo to have Satanists (self-admitted) representing the tradition, a Christian witchcraft tradition. My article will provide complete details on these people and their business. It is pretty shocking to see what they have online. Her attacks on generations of Voodoo practitioners and writers is appalling. When her background is nothing more than knowing a few people and reading Hyatts books. It is amazing this Satanic Comic Book writer thinks she is an expert on Hoodoo.

Awake Up Occultists!
It is time to carefully look at those stating they are occult experts. What are their qualifications? You need to carefully read websites and look at what they are offering. Who is this person or business? What names are they using, what are their beliefs? It does not take much research, most publish a Bio on their websites. It is shocking how unqualified they are. Search the persons name and see what they are involved in. Not only will you find few qualifications, you will find anything from violent criminal activities to associations with Satanic Lodges of all types. Do not take things at face value. If a person is writing about something, what are their qualifications to do so? Only a few people have any formal occult education and fewer do proper research past what is offered to them free. Most occult writers are just that writers, with little practical experience. Their researchers and arm-chair occultists which ultimately know very little.

The Guild is a not for profit teaching and research organization and in the United States was recognized by the IRS. All fees collected go to the actual operation of the Guild. No one working in the Guild is paid, everyone donates their time. All fees go to the many costs involved in operating a research and teaching Guild. As such, the Guild is allowed to offer important research materials for small fees to cover costs. The Hyatt Series of books are in copyright limbo land. All the original people connected to the books are death, copyrights were not renewed, and the claim to the material is in great question. Several for-profit businesses are selling eBooks at very high prices, and original editions sell for $400.00 or more each, making it impossible for the average person to access the information. The Guild is always trying to offer important research materials to the public for as low a cost as

possible. If further research is going to be done with these texts to prove or disprove their value, we need the general public to be involved in the research, not just a select few that can afford the high cost and then use the information for personal profit. The Guild is working with the Hoodoo, Conjure and Rootwork Studies Institute to offer the Hyatt Series to the public.
