Concept/Skill The students will use pictures on Storybird to create a story using their knowledge about what signs are in the environment that tell us it is becoming fall. Lesson Objective The students will be able to create a story based on a series of pictures. The story will reflect knowledge and concepts taught in a prior lesson about fall and the signs we see in our environment that indicate the change of season.

Materials Book: Fall is Here! I Love It! Various fall pictures Chart paper Computer Storybird.com Vocabulary fall, autumn, leaf, seasons, tree, colors: brown, green, yellow, orange, illustration, author, text, watercolor, print, publish, description Procedure 1. Introduction/Motivation Teacher will re-read Fall is Here! I Love It! pointing out the parts of the illustrations the text directly refers to. Teacher will encourage student participation in conversation about the illustrations and text references. 2. Development The teacher will ask the students what some of the words were that were used to describe the illustrations in the story. The teacher will refer to the story when necessary and write down a list of words used by the author to describe the illustrations and tell the story. The teacher will then explain to they will be authors and that their illustrator has already done the pictures. The authors job is to create the text. The students and teacher will observe pictures on pages 1-10 of a book and come up with the text to accompany the illustrations.

3. Conclusion/Closure The teacher and students will publish the book and share it with other Pre-K classes by having 1-2 children read a page of the book aloud to the other classes. The class will also walk to the Elementary School and share it with the librarian in the same fashion. Differentiation of Instruction The teacher will differentiate instruction by allowing each childs contribution to the story to be based on what the child is able to manage. Following large group discussion, the teacher will meet one-on-one and in small groups to ensure every child has an opportunity to have their words a part of the text. Evaluation/Assessment The students will participate in a meet the authors discussion following their presentation at which time each child will share their thoughts about their favorite thing about writing the book. The teacher will illicit these comments prior to meet the authors at a one-on-one interview with each child. Follow Up Follow up will be ongoing throughout the year when reading various books and referring to authors and illustrators.
