At the !eginning of each class, students will !e introduced to a series of images from which class discussions will stem1 %lass discussion will focus around the concepts of: portraiture drawing, relationship !etween su!"ect;media;style and meaning, and how to create realism when recording figurative images1 %lass (iscussion will serve as a form of pre9assessment to assist in gauging where general student knowledge !ase is, to help determine where to go with instruction, as well as to have students reflect and consider the concepts and material !eing covered in class1 &arm9up e2ercises will !e performed throughout the unit during the !eginning of class1 -he purpose of the warm9up e2ercises is to prepare the students mentally and physically to draw1 .tudents will !e asked to draw figures, still life, or to music1 At times they will perform more than one e2ercise on the same su!"ect1 '2ercises include: !lind contour drawings, gesture drawings, scri!!le drawings, drawing with the non9dominant hand, sketches, etc1 -o develop skill and !uild confidence with portraiture drawing, students will !e asked to complete a series of facial investigations1 1 sheet will e2amine strictly the different proportions of the face and head, 1 sheet will e2amine specific facial features 7ie1 eyes, mouths, noses8, and 1 will !e an in9class contour portrait of a fellow classmate1 After investigating facial proportion analytically and practicing, students will !e asked to complete a short qui3 to demonstrate their understanding1 -his qui3 will let me know that students are comforta!le and competent with facial proportions1 After investigating a num!er of different portraiture artists within class, students will !e asked to select one of their choosing to research1 .tudents will select a their artist and prepare a poster detailing who the artist was, the style the artist demonstrated or the movement they were a part of, and visual e2amples of the artist<s work1 .tudents will
