The overarching purpose of this lesson is(The big picture) a. The over arching purpose of this lesson is to teach students to make predictions about a text based on prior knowledge and what has already been read. I plan to do this lesson because I think it will prompt students to begin thinking more deeply about a text and by making predictions they will have combine their knowledge of the world to their understanding of a text which will help them think more in depth about the text. Predictions are something that they have already learned to make but I want them to be able to point to exactly why they made that prediction with example that supports their claim. 2. The essential learning goal for today is? a. To teach students to connect their knowledge of the world to a text and make predictions about what they think could happen next in the story. Not only do I want them to be able to make predictions but to be able to state why they made that prediction with good examples and evidence supporting their prediction. 3. The Common Core State Standards that are covered in this lesson are: a. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.6.1 Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. b. This standard is addressed in my lesson when they make the predictions and cite their evidence from the text. 4. The process by which I will equip my students to demonstrate the essential goal for today is? a. What will you do? What will your students do? i. Since making predictions is something they should have already learned how to do I will have them how they usually come up with their predictions. I will then explain that the focus for this lesson is not just to make predictions but also to expand on their predictions by providing evidence that supports their prediction specifically. Finally I will give them a worksheet that I made about making predictions that I will have them work on throughout their reading of The Diary of Anne Frank. b. Sequence of Events i. 1-2 Minute introduction ii. 2 minutes pass out work sheets iii. 5 minutes asking questions iv. 3 minutes Explain how to use specific evidence after making predictions v. 1 minute explain worksheet and address the class to be working on it while reading. c. List the questions you may ask

i. How do you usually make predictions when reading a text? ii. Do you base it off of opinion or a specific event in the story that leads to make that prediction? d. Time management and transitions i. For time management I will follow the sequence of events, this lesson is pretty simple and could even be shorter than expected. ii. For transitions I have made the order of events pretty smooth so it is not an awkward transition but to transition I will use transitional phrases like, moreover or moving forward lets talk about this. e. Other Considerations and ideas i. Make sure to make sure my students are grasping the concept and be prepared to adjust lesson according to their needs. ii. I could have students say some of their predictions out loud if there is time left or if I can tell there are some students in the class that need examples directly based to the text and could help them form their own predictions. 5. Technology I will be using in this lesson is: a. I will be using a quick PowerPoint with questions on it and explanations on how to make predictions. 6. The following evidence will show that my students demonstrated an understanding for the essential goal for today a. I will be able to know my students understand the lesson about making predictions that supported my textual evidence. If their answer are more opinion based I will see that they didnt understand that they needed to have cited evidence not opinion based notions. 7. I will pay close attention to the following students today because a. I will pay close attention to those who have a hard time comprehending a text. These students will have a difficult time making predictions with evidence because their own understanding of the novel. This is usually seen with the ELL students but there are a few I need to pay extra attention to because they have a hard time digging in to a text. I will pay close attention to chatter as well since I will be doing this lesson at the beginning of the class and they will be just settling from their hall period with they got to laugh and talk with friends. I also need to pay attention to those advanced students I want to make the lesson beneficial for those students too.
