edu November 14, 2013 Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah Orson Spencer Hall, Room 253 260 S. Central Campus Drive To Whom It May Concern: During the summer of 2013 I had the privileged to spend eight weeks working in East Africa. I traveled three different countries: Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. Upon returning from this experience many of my previous perspectives have changed and Ive started to develop a unique outlook on humanity. I would like to continue to gain new perspectives by furthering my education within the Hinckley Institute. I believe I could provide a unique perspective to Ambassador John Prices Think Tank. Im currently majoring in Parks, Recreation and Tourism with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. This will allow me to bring an unique perspective to class discussion. Upon graduating, I plan to pursue a masters degree in Global Health. By taking a class centered around foreign policy I believe this knowledge will help me immensely in my graduate program. Im currently a campus representative for an organization called Serengetee. This organization is made up of a group of college students around the United States who sell products and donate the funds to international organizations around the world. The company is currently donating to over 30 projects. After I left Africa I realized how privileged I am as an American. I have decided to dedicate my career to providing aid for developing countries, such as health care initiatives and project funding. I have a strong desire to learn about the governments strategies in developing relationships with other countries. I am especially excited to learn more about Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, due to the fact that I have had seen the potential of some of these developing countries. With my first-hand experiences in Africa, and the passion I feel about global health initiatives, I believe I could gain so much from this Think Tank but also make valuable contributions. It would be an honor to work with Ambassador John Price and learn about his time serving in Africa. Thank you for your consideration. Respectfully yours, Katherine Koplow
