The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Small School Principal to lead the students, staff, and community of the Civitas School of Leadership towards improved academic success. Civitas School of Leadership (Civitas SOL) is a traditional calendar school located at Roybal Learning Center in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. Civitas SOL opened its doors in 2007 to the first class of 9th grade students. We are a Pilot School within the Belmont Zone of Choice, which gives us autonomies in the areas of governance, budget, staffing, curriculum and instruction, and school calendar. Our curriculum and instruction autonomy allows teachers to collaborate and design interdisciplinary projects that call forth students' intellectual best. Students must graduate through exhibition, where they defend their work and demonstrate mastery of our established "Habits of Mind," which we feel are necessary skills that students need in order to be successful leaders and responsible members of the community. Civitas SOL offers an opportunity for teachers and families to take more ownership of our school and create the type of learning environment in which we feel students can be successful. This school is located at 1200 West Colton Street, Los Angeles, CA 90026. The Ideal Candidate will be an exceptional leader and educator who has a collaborative work ethic. It is essential that the candidate has working knowledge of and commitment to Pilot School autonomies and Center for Enriched Studies philosophy and practices. The candidate must possess the ability to lead an interdisciplinary instructional program and a willingness to teach at least one academic class. Knowledge of categorical and Special Education programs, counseling, student discipline and safety, and budget is needed. A background in successful grant writing and bilingual skills is desired. We seek an individual who will maintain open communication with all stakeholders.

SALARY: MST 40G (Temporary Adviser 0510) E Basis ($81,803 - $101,883) - 234 paid days

Subject to furlough days approved by the Board and/or Superintendent for the 2012-2013 school year; above rates will be adjusted accordingly. For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized settlement (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).

Required Experience Five years of successful full-time public school certificated service Three years experience as a teacher in a K-12 public school program Two years experience at a middle or senior high school, grades 6-12 At least one year of verifiable experience in an out-of-classroom leadership position (such as coordinator, instructional coach, dean, etc). Minimum Requirements include: A valid California Administrative Services Credential A valid California K-12 Teaching Credential Masters degree from an accredited college or university Multicultural coursework* District Master Plan requirements*
