There are 4 parts to planning an L.D. Model: 1. Identify Topic: The topic for this model must be an organized body of knowledge. 2. Specify Learning Objectives: When having a lesson that involves organized bodies of knowledge, your main topic falls right into place, but you also want your students to make relationships between different bodies of knowledge. 3. Structure Content: Since organized bodies of information are usually very broad, you will have to make sure you touch on the essential information and plan accordingly. 4. Prepare Lesson Introductions: Prepare an attention-grabbing introduction for your students that will draw in your students attention.

There are five phases to implementing an L.D. Model:

Phase 1: Review and Introduction: review previous topics and present the advance organizer for the lesson. Phase 2: Presentation: Present your students with information that makes up part of an organized body of knowledge. Phase 3: Comprehension Monitoring: Ask your students questions to informally assess the extent to which they remember and understand the information presented. Phase 4: Integration: Present your students with new information and ask questions that help the students integrate the new information with information that has already been presented. Phase 5: Closure: Guide your students as they review and summarize the information in the lesson.

Since you are teaching your students organized bodies of knowledge, you should assess them on the understanding of the topics and the relationships between them. Quizzes and short essay questions work best when assessing these two topics.

Students love group work, for they get the chance to learn while socializing with their peers. Also, if you use personalized example with your students, they are more likely to be involved with the lesson.

So what? What is important to understand about this?

The L.D. Model is a model designed to help students understand relationships between individual pieces of information through monitoring, questioning, and lecturing.
