Learning Activities: Students will choose a hot topic or issue currently going on in their school. They will take a stance on the issue and using Microsoft Word, they will identify and justify their opinion. Next, they will use a flip camera to record themselves reading their opinion that they have typed into their word document. Next, the student will interview 2-3 colleagues about their take on the issue, recording them using the flip camera. Students will create an online survey in which others in which the entire class will vote, showing their stance on the issue. The student will formulate a solution to the issue, once again using a word document to type their idea. The students will record themselves reading their solution. The student will create a short movie compiling their opinion, the interviews, poll data, and their solution idea. Movies will be presented to the class. Technology Integration: For this unit students will be using Microsoft Word to type their opinions and solutions. This technology relates to my standards because students will use it to write opinion pieces supporting their point of view with reasons. Students will create a survey using a free online tool called Survey Monkey which will allow them to collect and organize data. Students will use a flip camera to record themselves and colleagues to use technology to investigate a particular problem. Students will use iMovie to create a movie that will serve as a conclusion.
