Personal Response Since I have been in college I have had the chance to be a leader and to impact the lives

of the people around me. It all started in my sophomore year of college. I had recently joined a sisterhood of women where there were chances for me to become a leader and to make a difference in peoples lives. I am not going to lie, when I first joined the thought never really crossed my mind to push myself to become a figure of trust and respect. The most I wanted to do was become secretary and the thought excited me. However, someone saw something in me that I didnt see in myself at the time and they pushed me to run for presi dent, instead of secretary. I did run and I ended up being voted in as president. For that year that I was president of my sorority chapter I led my chapter into a brighter future. I was able to increase the number of people in the chapter, clean up our image on campus so that people looked at us with respect, and increased awareness of our existence on campus. By the end of my term in office I know that I made a difference in at least one persons life and I had accomplished what I had set out to do. I had led by example; I did not break the rules and then expect that the girls I was in charge of to follow them. I held myself to a higher standard than everyone else and I never let the power get my head. To me I was just one of many; expect that I entrusted to make sure everything ran smoothly. During my sophomore year, I also joined another club on campus, Campus activities board. While in this club I was given the responsibility of planning and enacting the events for Homecoming. At this point I hadnt been in the club very long and I wasnt sure if I could handle the job, but I came to realize that I am stronger than I thought I was. After that I became

someone that people in the club looked up to, someone they felt that they could rely on. I achieved my goals and then some and I am not done impacting the lives of others. I plan to use the skills I learned to help improve myself and those around me wherever I go.
