Unit Lesson Plan for Three Little Pigs Teacher: Kim Butler Subject: Writing Grade: 3rd

Name of Lesson: The Classic story of The Three Little Pigs and they need your help

Rationale: This lesson is to work on creative writing. The students will rewrite the story and there will be a change made from the original story, the students will pick one the four choices and write, what would happen if Objective: The student will create and illustrate a new ending to the original story of The Three Little Pigs. Standards: 3.5.4 Use varied word choices to make writing interesting. (Core Standard

3.5.5 Write for different purposes and to a specific audience or person. (Core Standard) Materials: *worksheet explaining project (attached) *The Three Little Pigs Lesson Presentation: Anticipatory Set: The students are going to be changing a classic story and how the ending would turn out based on a big change that takes place in the story. The students will be excited to write the story and then be able to share their story with their classmates. Teaching Procedures: Monday 1. Read The Three Little Pigs. Discuss how this version of the story was the same or different from the story last week of The True Story of The 3 Little Pigs. 2. Explain the writing. The Three Little Pigs need your help something has gone wrong in their story and they need you to rewrite and fix the story. Each student needs to pick an event listed and rewrite the story. Then on the back the student will illustrate that scene of the story. Tuesday *writing paper *plain paper *pencil

*crayons/colored pencils

3. Handout the worksheet that has the events for the writing. Answer any questions the students have about the assignment. 4. Students will begin writing. Wednesday 5. Continue working on writing. 6. Finish rough draft. Thursday 7. Write final copy of writing. 8. Draw Illustration of the scene you wrote about. Friday 9. The students will share their stories with the class. 10. We will talk about the original story and how their stories were different. Guided & Independent Practice: The worksheet will explain what they need to do and I will also be helping with any questions the students may have as they work independently. Closure: We will conclude with each student reading to the class their story and then we will review the original story and talk about how the students stories are different from the original story. Assessment of Student Outcomes: I will grade the students stories using a rubric, on how well they wrote their story, based on description and creative ideas. Technology: There will not be any technology used for this lesson. Adaptations: I will help the ELL students with their writing to use the correct word usage, and I will help the LD students on areas they are struggling with. Evaluation:
