1. What was the area of focus today during the lesson? What activities related to the area of focus did the teacher include in the lesson today? The area of focus today in my lesson was comprehension. The students read 2 passages that then underlined the differences, highlighted the similarities, and circled the clue words. 2. What went well with the instruction? What did students learn? The students did very well when we compared and contrasted the passages. They were able to pick out what was similar and what was different in both passages. They did learn about clue words, although they knew compare and contrast they had never heard about clue words. 3. Explain a growth moment for yourself where you realized, learned, or confirmed something from today dealing with student achievement in the area of reading. (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, before/during/after reading A growth moment for myself was when I realized how many different ways a student can work on comprehension. They can do compare and contrast, cause and effect, and the lot of the story. The students seemed to comprehend the story better when they compared and contrasted the story instead of trying to find the cause and the effect. 4. Describe a moment when a student grasped an idea/concept-that got it! kind of moment. How was the teacher able to facilitate this experience? Explain the situation. The students already knew the information but they were able to show me how they compared the animals or deserts in the story.
