RATIONA !

Manual for Teaching and Incorporating ICT into the Classroom ) There is <idespread agreement among the public and educators that all students need to be proficient computer users or =computer literate>; !ducational associations are advocating for a more meaningful use of technology in schools ,I0T!& '%%%/; !ducational technologists are advocating integrating computer s6ills into the content areas& proclaiming that computer s6ills should not be taught in isolation; There is increasing recognition that the end result of computer literacy is not 6no<ing ho< to operate computers& ?though important@ but to use technology as a tool for organi2ation& communication& research& and problem solving; This is an important shift in approach and emphasis; The best <ay to learn ho< to use a computer is to use it; 7ountries across the 7aribbean recogni2e this and ac6no<ledge that an economy driven by I7T is a 6ey to global competitivenessA as a result many countries have attempted to introduceB integrate I7T into the primary and secondary classroom; There have been many issues associated <ith this attempt& namelyA limited physical space for the creation of labs and for some<here labs could be established they have been faced <ith scheduling problems& teachers varying levels of comfort <ith the use of '1st century technologies& a lac6 of teacher education in I7T& and a lac6 of a standardi2ed guide to the proper use and integration of I7T in the teaching and learning process; Through our investigation <e have found out that there are policies and curriculum established by 7C7 for use in 0econdary schools but that at present the primary schools seemed to have been left out and as such <e have decided to create this I7T 3anual for use in Primary 0chools; This I7T 3anual is one of three interventions derived from this project definedBrefined from an initiative entitled 7urriculum Internet Access for Teachers and 0tudents ,7IAT0/;

To facilitate this rational the follo"ing Ob#ectives "ere set up:
