November 15, 2013 Mrs. Brosman bbrosman@triton.k12.in.us www.mrsbrosman.weebly.com Phone: 574-342-2355 Math This week we worked on multiplying two decimals and dividing Unit 3.3 Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins
Consonants /j/, /ks/, /sk/, and /s/

decimals by whole numbers. When we multiply a decimal times a multiple of 10, it moves to the right because our answer is getting bigger. When we divide by a multiple of 10 our number is getting smaller so our decimal moves to the left. Next week we will finish up topic 7. Our test will be given the week of Thanksgiving.

CCSS Language 2.e.

Reading

Next week our story is The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins. It is a biography on a man named Waterhouse Hawkins who was the first person to piece together dinosaur fossils into a complete skeleton. We will practice the comprehension skill of fact and opinion, and we will also continue working on our novels.

Grammar Next week we will look at present and past participles

again, but this time it will focus on irregular verbs. An example is eat. Present tense is eat, past tense is ate, present participle is is eating, and past participle is has eaten.

Writing We are focusing on persuasive writing in our new unit. Stu-

dents were assigned a debate topic and what side they would be arguing. We will spend the next week researching and writing the rough drafts of our debates.

Spelling Next weeks words are going to be tough because they are
tricky consonant sounds. Start practicing early on this one! www.spellingcity.com/triton5

Social Studies This week students completed a project. They

chose a European explorer to make a fake Facebook page (word document) for. The students did a great job! I loved their sense of humor that they included in their explorers profile. I will make these available to view on the website shortly.

Science-. We have finally finished our unit on the Solar System. We

will take a break from the book to participate in a free program from NIPSCO called Energizing Indiana. NIPSCO supplies us with lessons and free take-home kits for each child.!
