Washougal Washougal is found on the East of Vancouver at the banks of the Columbia River.

It is popularly known as the Gateway to the Gorge both to its inhabitants and tourists. The places name was derived from a tributary river flowing into the Columbia. This Chinook dialect means rushing water. This is considered as one of the most historical areas in the region. Early accounts show that it has existed from the time the Chinook tribe was existing. Currently, the town has a population of approximately 13,000 and is considered now as a suburb in the metropolitan part of Portland, OR. Notwithstanding this, the area is still famous for its semi-rural buildings and historical wonders. You can see great ships and other wonderful sites. The Washougal River on the other hand gives a more refreshing sight to the people. They can still see the hills and the green forests. Indeed, it offers great opportunities for outdoor adventure. Their librarians were recognized and awarded by ALTRUSA with the International Library Service Award in the year 2002.
