Contact Information DSN: 624-3264 Email: roger.corey@eu.dodea.edu Course Description: The emphasis in English 10 is on writing, analysis of literature, and grammar. Vocabulary development, language usage, and correct grammatical usage will be stressed. The development of discussion and presentation skills will focus on analysis, interpretation, and evaluation. Students will read and respond to a variety of literary selections. Students will write in a variety of styles such as reports, formal or informal research papers, personal narratives, fiction, autobiographical, problem/solution, informational, evaluation, and persuasive essays. The course will also provide for a maximum interchange of ideas among students. Course Goals: Upon successful completion of English 10, students will be able to: Analyze and understand various literary genres. Write formal compositions in a variety of formats. Develop and employ vocabulary skills appropriate to the level of reading and writing encountered. Create and share original examples of some of the literary genres explored. Employ consistently the conventions of standard written English. Make and critique formal and informal oral presentations. Texts: Students will use Elements of Literature, Elements of Writing, and other selected readings. Expectations: Students are expected to arrive in class on time and prepared, participate in classroom discussions, turn assignments in on time, and be respectful of the instructor and other students. Assignments: Written assignments must be typed in 12 pt font, double-spaced, on one side of the page only. Late work: will be graded as follows: 1 day late = HALF CREDIT. Two days late = NO CREDIT. Evaluative Techniques: Traditional evaluation tools will be employed in the course, to include quizzes, tests, journal work, written assignments, projects, presentations, and participation.
Attendance
