Studentsreadandinterpretarangeofsignificantlymodifiedtextsformeaningandextractbasicfactualinformationon definedtopics.Studentsbegintowritesimplesentencesusingmodifiedtextsasaguide.Theydemonstratean understandingofwordmeanings,wordassociations,cognatesandderivativesandapplythisknowledgetotheirown work.Theymanipulatemodelledlanguageatthelevelofsimplesentences.andidentify,describeanddiscusssimple linguisticandgrammaticalstructuresofthelanguage.Studentsshowanunderstandingofmorphologicalfeatures suchascase,gender,number,person,tense,moodandtheimportanceofgrammaticalagreement.They demonstrateeffectivesounddiscrimination. ForLatin,studentsidentifysimilarlettersthatsounddifferentinthelanguage,andreadaloud,attemptingtoapply knowledgeofpronunciation.
