We will begin the class with a quick game of multo. Using a 4x4 grid students will fill the boxes with any numbers between 0-81. I will then ask them multiplication facts and if they have the answer they cross it off their list. First student to get horizontal, vertical or diagonal line is to yell MULTO, is the winner. Students will then be split up into groups and I will explain the three activities and what is expected of them. Students will be broken up into their scaffolding groups and will be instructed that they can work together to solve the questions. Each group will also have a leader who will facilitate discussion. 1. The answer is 10 this is the only game I will have to facilitate as the class works. I will give them a number, any number and they have to come up with as many different facts using all of the operations. For example: the number is 10, 5+5, 5x2, 10x1, 9+1, 12-2, 20/2, so on and so forth. 2. There will be a group doing times tables there will be a few different ones to choose from and students will be required to attempt as many as possible. 3. Worded questions There will be a sheet of worded maths problems relating to multiplication and students are required to answer as many as they can. (** There will be extension questions if the top group find the others too easy.) Students will spend 10 minutes at each station before moving to the next. We will need to usher them on and make sure we are keep track of time To finish off we will have a brief discussion about what they learnt, what they enjoyed, what they found tricky, if they had any strategies for any of the equations, ask them to write a quick reflection in their maths workbook.
