Week 7

8:00 Free Play: I will assist Pam with preparing materials for the days activities. I will take out books or cds she plans to use and set up the art easel. I will also discuss her lesson ideas with her to be better prepared for when I have to set up activities.

8:45 Outdoor Play: I will encourage Esther to take part in games that other children are playing by bringing something valuable to them (i.e. food to a restaurant dramatic play) to help her develop her social skills of joining in with others.

9:10 Group Time: I will set-up snack with the snack helper. I will allow them to pour juice today to help build large motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

9:20 Snack: I will discuss favorite foods and restaurants with the children to know them better and gauge their knowledge of their home town. I will ask them about food they enjoy eating and what different restaurants they have had those foods at.

9:35 Books: I will read with Ilada and ask about the emotions that are illustrated in the book as we read and how they correlate to the event taking place on the page to gauge her social/emotional development.

9:45 Group Time: I am required to set up the pre-planned activities for free choice activity time while Pam leads group time.

10:00 Free Choice Activities: I will encourage Esther to choose an activity that does not take place in the active room, so she can have a wider variety of experiences during play time. I will suggest an activity that I have noticed she enjoys such as painting or playing with Play-Doh.

10:50 Outdoor Play: I will bring children over to the compost box and explore what is inside of it with them. I will gauge their interests as guidance for my upcoming investigation.

11:30 Lunch: I will practice the recommended phrases that the school director gave me which include asking if a child is full rather than if they are finished.

Week 7

Daily Schedule and Goals

8:00 Free Play: I will discuss my group time activities with Pam to receive feedback on my plans and ideas.

8:45 Outdoor Play: I will observe Ty and his conflict resolution skills in order to discover the point where his behavior becomes aggressive or manipulative. I will use my observations to discuss a possible behavior plan with Pam.

9:10 Group Time: I will lead the class in morning jobs and read the book Pumpkin, Pumpkin to set up the class up for a pumpkin sequencing activity that Pam planned.

9:20 Snack: I will read with the children who opt out of snack and work on prediction skills by allowing them opportunities to guess what will happen next in the story and what the outcomes will be to characters actions.

9:35 Books: I will practice the classroom management method of clapping in order to grab everyones attention to transition into group time.

9:45 Group Time: I will sing and dance to the song Chuchuwa with the class to give the children some wiggle time and expose the class to some Spanish vocabulary.

10:00 Free Choice Activities: I will lead the activity that goes with the Pumpkin, Pumpkin book and work on story event sequencing by having the children place the correlated pictures in the order they occurred in the book. I will encourage picture walks if the children struggle to remember.

10:50 Outdoor Play: I will continue my observation of Tys conflict resolution skills and step in when necessary to encourage different methods of solving conflicts.

11:30 Lunch: I will play a guessing game related to dessert with the children at my table and use clues to help them guess. (i.e. If we had pears yesterday, then it will not be pears today.) This activity can help build disembedded thinking skills of If, then possibilities.

Week 7

8:00 Free Play: I will use TAP suggestions to help calm Esther when she transitions from home to school. I will reduce my verbal language and rely on body language and time.

8:45 Outdoor Play: I will play an organized game to teach direction following, such as What time is it Mr. Fox?

9:10 Group Time: I will set-up snack with the snack helper. I will give them a number of each item to put on a table to work on counting.

9:20 Snack: I will work on portion sizes with the children at my table, because it is a daily problem. I will set out the 1 or 2 scoops signs and discuss what they say and mean with the children.

9:35 Books: I will read a popular class book with children and encourage them to participate by saying known phrases along with me as I read to work on memory skills.

9:45 Group Time: I will set up the pre-planned activities for free choice activity time while Pam leads group time.

10:00 Free Choice Activities: I will work with Eli on his social skills by using guiding questions to encourage a conversation rather than a story about a television show. (i.e. What kinds of games do you play with your family at home?)

10:50 Outdoor Play: I will set up lunch with the lunch helpers and build teamwork skills as they work together to set up through compromising and making decisions. I will allow them to choose and work out who set out plates, cups, napkins, etc.

11:30 Lunch: I will discuss fears and what makes us feel better with the children at my table. I will tell them what frightens me to assure them that fears are normal and use their responses to get to know them better.

Week 7

Daily Schedule and Goals

8:00 Free Play: I will discuss the days free choice activities with Pam and try to find new games to do during group time to assure student interest.

8:45 Outdoor Play: I will continue my observations of Tys conflict resolution skills and try to develop methods to help him find healthy ways to solve issues with his friends.

9:10 Group Time: I will use beats to dismiss the children to snack. I will make a beat and each child must repeat a different beat. This can help build music skills.

9:20 Snack: I will demonstrate correct hand washing with the children to cut back on germs and the overuse of water, while encouraging self sufficiency in cleanliness.

9:35 Books: I will encourage Eli to read a book with me about a topic he is unfamiliar with. This will widen his array of discussions with children so that Thomas the Train is not the only thing he talks about.

9:45 Group Time: I will read Burger Boy and encourage class participation. I will pause at familiar places and ask the children to tell me what will happen next and what lines Burger Boy will repeat.

10:00 Free Choice Activities: I will ask Judy (Esthers specialist) about ways to encourage Esther to do a wider variety of activities so that Esther can have exposure to more skills involved with activities she avoids (i.e. fine motor skills and writing).

10:50 Outdoor Play: I will encourage Eli to play active games with other children rather than playing alone and stationary. I will discover what kinds of active games he enjoys and suggest that he ask others if they would like to play that game.

11:30 Lunch: I will practice the recommended phrases about eating times that the school director gave me so that they become more natural rather than intently thought out.

Week 7

8:00 Free Play: I will ask Pam for advice on how to set up the classroom for my investigation. I will ask about books, posters, and other ways to expose the children to the topic of my investigation during phase I.

8:45 Outdoor Play: I will encourage Esther to take play with other children to help her develop her social skills. I will show her how I use words to invite others to play with me by doing it myself (i.e. Would you like to play with me?).

9:10 Group Time: I will play hot potato to work on behavioral skills (particularly when a child is out). I will observe how children react to be taken out of the game and praise children who handle being removed well so that children who struggle with it can see that it is okay for there to be only one winner.

9:20 Snack: I will discuss foods we like with Eli to better gauge his diet which has been difficult during snack and lunch. I will look over the lunch menu and see if it is necessary to suggest to his mother to pack him a lunch so that he is eating during the day.

9:45 Group Time: I will participate with the class to encourage self control and participation skills in large group settings. I will listen quietly to the story while sitting still and I will dance and sing to the songs that Pam leads.

10:00 Free Choice Activities: I will sit in music class and be a model of a listener for the children. I will wait quietly for directions and intently do as Pam says for each song and paired activity.

10:50 Outdoor Play: I will discuss possibilities for next weeks activities with Pam. I will ask how she intends to wrap up the pumpkin investigation and how I might be able to use similar methods to wrap up my investigation.

11:30 Lunch: I will encourage self-help skills with the children who tend to struggle with them more often. I will particularly work with Gus who has trouble with asserting independence and is very reliant on teacher permission.
