3. Activity Description: a. Purpose/goals- Students will watch the video on shapes. It is a short video so it will not take up a lot of time. After the video the teacher will ask the class as a whole what shapes they saw in the video. She will call on students and write down their answers on the board. The teacher will ask the students to then take out a piece of paper and she will give them 5-6 minutes to find and write 3 examples of the shapes shown in the video found in the classroom (circle=classroom rug, rectangle=white board, etc.). After 5-6 minutes the teacher will then call the students back to their seats and have them go around and share at least one example. After they have practiced and applied their knowledge on the basic shapes by writing down names and real world objects that are in the classroom, the teacher will bring out the shapes chart and review the shapes on the poster having the students repeat the shapes name directly after her. She then will model how to count and identify sides in shapes. To evaluate what she has taught, she will ask them how many sides they see and then call on them to come to the board and identify the number correctly on the poster. Once again, the students will be asked about the shapes by asking true or false questions with students responses of their knowledge (Point to a square Teacher: Class I am pointing to a triangle. Students: No, that is a square Teacher: why? Students: It has four sides. Teacher: So does a rectangle. What is the difference?) The teacher will then provoke a deeper thought within the students and then the teacher steps in and explains. Questions will be asked. Students will be able to identify and name shapes correctly while being able to relate and identify them in the real world. b. Method/learning style: Visual, mixed media, and active learning involving classroom resources will be used for multiple intelligences to test and improve their knowledge on the subject. Motivation will be used throughout the lesson to encourage them to compare the subject taught to the real world. c. Student product: Students will be given a worksheet that involves them to name basic shapes and two new shapes they learned. Then they will be given four drawings and asked them to identify the number or sides they have. Lastly at the bottom of the page they will have to choose three shapes and draw where you can find them in the real world (outside of the classroom).
