in todays lesson, two teams of six will play each other in a small-sided 15minute modified football game. The field will now be 60 yards long and 10 feet wider then it was on day two. The teams will now be able to get one first down per drive. Every two completions will be considered a first down while still having only 4 attempts to get a first down. There will still be a play clock of 20 seconds from the time the previous play is over. This will still be counted by the defending team. If the time limit is exceeded it will count as a loss of a play. This will help to increase the hustle and heart rate of the students and help to improve on cardiovascular endurance.

Informing: The purpose of this lesson is to increase the size of the field, amount of players and other aspects to the modified games of the first two days for a different way to get cardiovascular endurance increased. Another focus is the length of time that the students will spend at each activity. This is increasing the amount of continuous time that the students will be physically active. Making sure the students push themselves and try hard in the activities to increase their heart rate is extremely important. Initially checking the students resting heart rate, then having them take there heart rate after a certain amount of time in these activities is a great way to show the students how easy it can be to increase cardiovascular endurance. Giving the students an appropriate target heart rate based on their resting heart rate is a great way to give the students a goal to reach and push themselves in the activities.

Refining/Extending: Soccer: Students should use the inside of their feet to pass the ball. As the contact the middle to upper half of the ball in order to keep the ball on the ground, students should extend the inside of the foot towards the target they are passing/shooting at. Students also should be able to use both the inside and outside of their feet to dribble the ball and change directions with the ball. More skilled soccer players will be able to use both the dominant and non-dominant feet while dribbling, passing or shooting. On defense the students should be in an athletic stance with theirs knees bent and try to keep the person that they are defending in front of them at all times. Frisbee: When throwing a Frisbee, students should step with assimilation. The same foot as the throwing arm will
20

step towards the target. It is important to hold the disc as flat as possible. Make sure to extend your arm towards your target and snap your wrist at the end. When catching the Frisbee extend your arms and hands towards the incoming Frisbee followed by bringing them into the body.

Learning Activities: As a warm up students will jog around the field for four minutes. After the four minutes are up the teacher will blow their whistle and the students will come in to the meeting place where the teacher will already be standing. The teacher will lead the class in a series of dynamic stretches to get stretched while slightly increasing the heart rate. The first of 2 circuits will be a small sided, two teams of 6 playing a small sided modified soccer game against each other for 15 minutes. The size of the field will now be increased by
21

another 10 yards long and 10 yards wide. This will help to spread the field more and create more space and opportunities for running around, increasing your heart rate and in turn increasing the students cardiovascular endurance. This is essential because of the fact that there are more people on the field at one time. There will also be a time constraint on how long a student can hold the ball for. Every student can only dribble the ball for up to 10 seconds before having to pass to a teammate or shoot on goal. This will help increase the participation of the two teammates without the ball because they still have to be moving without the ball because they know eventually they will have to get the ball passed to them. The final new rule is a major scoring rule. The amount of successful passes before the score is how many points are awarded to the scoring team. For instance if the scoring team had 8 passes leading up to the score then they would be awarded 8 points. The maximum amount of points
22

that can be awarded from one score is 10. This is a great way to get the students to stay in the game and try as hard as they can on defense as well as getting everyone involved on offense. There will be two cones set up on opposite sides of the field as goals. In order to score, the team has to kick the ball ON THE GROUND in between the cones. There is no slide tackling, pushing, pulling or using your hands in any way to touch the soccer ball. If the ball goes out of bounds the opposite team will play the ball back in from the ground to a teammate. The team with the most points scored after 15 minutes wins. The final circuit will be a small-sided ultimate Frisbee game. There will be two teams of six set up on the same field type set up as the modified football game from day 3 with the same dimensions. Since the field and the amount of people are larger then the previous game there are some new rules. First there is a play clock so that you only have 10 seconds from the
23

point that you catch the ball to the point that you pass it again. If you exceed the time limit then it is an automatic turnover. Also instead of being allowed 5 steps after catching the Frisbee you are now allowed 8 steps. Again if you exceed the 8-step limit then you will lose possession of the ball. Finally the scoring rule is the same as the scoring rule for soccer for day 4. The amount of successful passes before the score is how many points are awarded to the scoring team. For instance if the scoring team had 8 passes leading up to the score then they would be awarded 8 points. The maximum amount of points that can be awarded from one score is 10. All of the same safety rules apply; there is no pushing, no tripping, tackling or anything that can be dangerous in this aspect. One can only deflect or hit the Frisbee if it has already left the hand of the person throwing it. If the Frisbee hits the ground at any point it is also an automatic turnover.

24

Assessment: Have the students write down which activity they found more tiring and that got their heart rate going more from day 4 and why. Also have them write down two ways to increase cardiovascular endurance.
