First Grade Writing

By the end of first grade, students should be able to write: opinion pieces (with introduction, reason, closure) informational /explanatory pieces (with introduction, facts, closure) narratives (with sequenced events, details, time/order words, closure) with revisions (supported by peers and adults) shared research projects narrowed research on a specific question (with recalled or gathered information) while exploring different genres, such as memoirs, poetry, letters, lists and procedures while developing writers crafts (structure, clear ideas, language use, word choice and voice) increasing use of conventions (text features and spacing, grammar, capitalization, punctuation, spelling, handwriting / word-processing) within the steps of the writing process (planning, drafting, revising, editing, publishing, sharing)
