b) Why gradual implementation

Gradual implementation of changes in a merger was very important for Kraft and GF to be successful. It was to ease the issues faced in a transition, addition to it an opportunity to the new organization to understand and learn from the mistakes and successes of each department as the scheme comes out.

Contrasting changes immediately could conceive angst that could hinder the integration process. Phasing and prioritizing transitions while ensuring short-term or quick hit wins should be realized and communicated well as it is one of the most delicate and sensitive components of any merger. Both Kraft and GF had to be extremely perceptive to the order and timing of any operational alterations which were outcome of merger. While integrating, both the companies started with least intrusive changes and they gradually moved on to larger shifts, depending upon the sensitivity of the situation and the momentum of synergy. Demonstrating achievement in small localities helped gain confidence. Sudden disruption could have brought severe resistance that could have affected critical areas badly
